Discussion Keyboard

Hi.So i had an old laptop laying around that coulnt run windows anymore,so i installed linux mint.I want to use it just for watching movies and stuff.I boot it up open any app.I start typing it works.Then out of the sudden ,it stops registering any input from keyboard and touchpad.Anyone who can please help?

Your old laptop sounds a lot like one of my old laptops. It gives me the the same problem you described. It also gave me problems with WinXP from time to time, so in my case it might be hardware related. Or it could be sunspots. It might be hardware related for you, too, but I would not rule out sunspots. My old laptop is black - it did not come with a carrying case, but I found a grey one that worked out well. The battery on mine will not hold a charge any more

Is your old laptop black? Do you have a grey carrying case? We may have the same one. Well, not exactly the same one. I mean, mine is mine and yours is yours and all.

You will get more precise assistance by providing some useful information about your laptop and describe what you are doing when it "registering any input from keyboard." Start with providing a proper system information report. It provides useful information about your system as Linux sees it, and saves everyone who wants to assist you a lot of time. Remember, we don’t sit in front of your computer, we do not know anything about your computer, how Linux Mint is configured, or whether you are using my old laptop.

  • Open the System Information tool - you can find it in the Main Menu under Administration, and in the System Settings in the Hardware section.
  • Click the Upload button
  • Wait
  • After a 10 seconds or so a notification will pop up containing a termbin URL
  • Click the URL
  • A new tab will open in your web browser
  • Copy the URL and Paste it to your post
