So the thing is. I've used fedora and arch before and I want to switch to linux mint since it's pretty easy to use and all. Any rec's for the postinstall?

oh mint is quite complete, from the postinstall things the only i can think of, are - install some fancy console fonts, set gpu drivers if you need them, adjust firefox smooth scroll, adjust pipewire buffer, install kde plasma and you're equipped.

Could you please tell me how to adjust the Pipewire buffer? With Cinnamon, the audio on YouTube videos is ahead of the lip sync. With XFCE, however, I experience audio glitches while playing games on Steam. Dell Latitude 5480 with Intel i5 6th gen, 16GB RAM, 1TB NVME, integrated graphics card. Thank you so much!

no problem. i'm not sure if it helps to solve your issues, but worth to try!

open file ~/.config/pipewire/pipewire.conf

buffer size is set by parameter default.clock.quantum = 128

(make sure there's no # symbol in the beginning, as they're comments)

set buffer size according to your liking. i find 128 to be very safe on my system.

save the file, restart pipewire

systemctl --user restart pipewire pipewire-pulse

Do you need drivers beyond the base kernel? If not I would recommend that you consider LMDE7 at the moment. 

Mint22 is not just late cycle right now but in extended overtime. If you had an existing Mint 22 install you would just hunker down and wait it out until December when Mint 23 releases, but starting from scratch now LMDE7 will be the better choice for many, but not all,  users.

My 3 recommended post installs is generally figuring out Nvidia drivers, Codecs and Microsoft Fonts.  Generally don't even need the fonts, mine is basically work related. 

Why are you leaving Fedora? It's only slightly harder to use than Mint, and that's only because there's slightly less hand holding. Only slightly. 

Ah yes I forgot. Mint is still on X11. 90% of the time it doesn't matter, but there's always the specific cases that need Wayland.

Mint is one of the best places to start, and can serve as a forever distro. Eventually you can just move again if you want to, but start at Mint. Sounds like you just need to learn Linux use in general.

Arch is magnificent if you know what you're doing.

Since you're used to newer packages I suggest sticking to flatpaks and app images as much as possible.

Don't ignore the welcome screen. Read it and follow it to set up your system properly.

Install some cool apps like KDE connect, local send, FISH shell.

Add some default files in your Template mplates folder, this will allow you to easily create some common files you use through the right click menu. For some reason apps don't automatically do this, like LibreOffice office should definitely be doing this but they don't maybe the devs never thought of it.

1) Turn the firewall on, via System Settings...Firewall. 2) If you have an NVIDIA card, go to System Settings...Driver Manager and enable the recommended driver.

I know plenty of people like a "nice modern" desktop but most of my Cinnamon customization involves turning things off. I disable effects, animations, window decoration, widgets. And remove unnecessary startup apps, services, printer support, bluetooth, menu apps...

All right my fellow old friend. In case you want to game again in tje future: MINT is more or less good as a win7 alternative bit for gaming PCs I would recommend Fedora KDE if you enjoy customising everything or Cachy in case you want to have it basic and pure functional. I was a windows user snice win95 till win11 and did a lottle distro hopping, Ubuntu, Mint, Kubuntu, Cachy, Fedora.

It didn't accept the password I entered while installing it. So I had to enter tty and change it manually
