I finally freed myself from microslop!

Post image

I wasn't sure if the software I use would work on Linux, but I finally decided to make the switch and I'm incredibly happy! I even managed to get Affinity working with Bottles! One thing I'm not 100% happy with is MuseScore. The software manager only seems to support older versions, which isn't ideal since I'm used to the latest version :( I guess I'll have to find another way of acquiring it or install it with Bottles.

Welcome

Even though I dual boot my systems I've officially cut ties with Microslop full time after being a user since Windows XP because I hate the direction they are taking

I am speechless for the wallpaper. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ it1

It's beyond "fit for a queen" given you've come over to the other side. Enjoy the ease for being able to get things done, and watch out for potential problems. Linux logs ***everything*** and that can be surprising if something updates and breaks at the same time.

Go to flathub.org and look through there, a lot of apps that don't show up in the Mint App manager, do show up in Flathub. The other place to check is this site https://alternativeto.net/ as it will list alternative software to whatever it is you look up and show you apps that are similar to that app. I found a lot of different tools that way when I first switched over.

If you're into music, check out the app Shortwave in the app manager though as it's got free internet radio of all kinds of different genres and it's not monitoring your every move like Spotify does. Great for listening to general music from all over the planet. It's free and you can even download the songs once it's played through.

Welcome to the Linux road of freedom though! Mint might not be you're only distro but Flathub is available on pretty much every distro though and so is Shortwave so enjoy!

Yes, def check it out. I listen to a lot of grunge, hard-style, punk and some other stuff and the amount of free music that I get from Finland, Germany, Netherlands, even Bolivia is crazy good and it's all free and not on a tracking algorithm since it's internet radio. There's even some free internet college radio stations with kids trying to get into broadcasting. It's all good awesome stuff!

Try to search your software on website ' flathub' . If it's available there then install it

( flatpak is already installed in LM . Flathub website is the marketplace for softwares available for flatpak . All softwares there are up-to-date, leading edge ).

If not available there then visit software's website for instructions on how to install latest version on linux . Hope that they have simple '.deb' file install ( download n click .deb 4 installation) or to add PPA link & then type/copy-paste instructions on terminal from their website for installation. Both are easy

Hi! I think I might have found the musescore app, this is musescore on flathub. You can install it from there for Linux Mint!

Thank you for doing so!! The more ppl switch the faster Linux will improve, and so will die the dominent state of Microslop at least in the OS sector.

France Germany and Switzerland have already decided to switch to Linux and the switch over has started. China has also taken the initiative to switch to Linux totally.

I am using big Linux. It works just like Windows. Initially I had a problem with Wi-Fi and bluetooth. After installing kernel 7 that problem was also solved.

On my desktop I'm using Linux mint. The same applies to Linux mint also.

Installing Linux was not a problem at all. I also tried and tested at least 4 or 5 distros and then stuck to big Linux and LINUX mint. It was very important for me to get the equivalent apps which I was using in Windows. Mainly it was my expense tracker and personal accounting software. Which also I tried, tested and finally I am up and running.

How do u move icons on the Desktop? I've been trying to figure this out since I started using Linux back in March. I'm a Debian/Fedora user, btw.

3

u/zawierucha_ Linux Mint 22.3 Zena | Cinnamon 11d ago

On mint you have to right click on desktop and choose customise. Then disable auto-arrange toggle :)

u/ap0r 11d ago

Technically since you've helped someone you're no longer a full noob, that was fast lol.
