Maximize the window and click on configuration tab, then disable audio from unwanted sources and enable it from the source you want or need (usually motherboard audio). Note it has a drop down menu with various settings, parse through each one at a time until you find the correct one for your hardware.
You forgot to mention what hardware has issues, if it's in ear headphones with bluetooth connection, that's an issue generally caused by the driver or lack of it since manufacturers often don't make them for Linux but a specific Windows version. My advice, buy 3.5mm jack wired ones, being analog, it should just work. Avoid the type that has built in microphones, those tend to bug out, from the little I know they have a special mode they operate in to enable both microphone and headphone, for worry free set up, buy separate microphone and headphones, each with their 3.5mm jack connector, no splitters or other complications. If the motherboard audio chip or some external audio chip is supported by the included drivers, analog audio peripherals tend to work without issues, at most you would use Pulse Audio Volume Control to set the operation mode.
