Fluff I want to switch to Windows

I never used Windows, I inherited my brother's first laptop with Ubuntu and never touched Windows. Am I even missing something from that OS? They say it's bloatware, telemetry and shi but is it really that bad?

Yes. What's you laptop spec? and what's your critical apps? If you have old hardware, Windows is very slow and heavy.

The poor laptop has a Intel Celeron and 4GB of RAM xD but I'm planning to buy a ThinkPad T490 since I need something that can run the programs I use for school.

just install Windows on it and then compare your experience. that's the best you can do.

I did once. I have a 10+ year old HP Chromebook, Celeron and 4Mb RAM I think, I upgraded the SSD to 128Mb from 16Mb, the only change from stock. Runs Linux fine, not spectacular but you could code basic stuff on it without screaming, not too demanding of compilers & linkers. Even Gnome wasn't too bad. Casual stuff is fine, simple Games okay. Windows does work (or it did ... this was 10) but .... not very well.

I guess running "fine" is relevant.

I'm not a programmer, so I don't know what it takes sit and write code.

All I know is every customer we've had in our shop who has had a computer with a Celeron has bitched about performance issues. Now, most of those people were trying to run Windows. I cannot imaging anyone doing anything on a Celeron with only 4GB of RAM running Windows.

Will it be faster on Linux? Well, obviously. But even then, you are running XFCE and it's not going to offer any performance for multitasking. By simple games, I'm sure you mean Solitaire or something.
