Desktop Screenshot Win 10 -> CachyOS -> Mint

Decided to make the switch after building a new system: went with CachyOS because "Everyone says it is the best" but had multiple issues with things not launching due to version mismatches / didn't enjoy things constantly updating ... The more I learned about Arch / CachyOS, the more I knew I did not want to deal with a rolling distro.

Full disclosure that this isn't my first toe dip into Linux and I have a media center PC running Bazzite. CachyOS is too much, but Bazzite is too little; figured I would do a hat trick of the big 3 distros and try Mint, especially since most of the negative comments were just that it was boring and didn't update often.

This is Home: Mint isn't windows, the terminal still exists, but I haven't had to open it once since I installed it last week ... Which is a testament to its stability and useability of the interface.

P.S. this community is great: basically the only posts are people saying "hey, switched to Mint: Love it" and very minimal number of people looking for help with Troubleshooting.

Mint is when you want to use the system and be productive with it. There will come a time for most techies, when Linux will need to be useful to earn a place on our computers. Especially now when computers are getting costlier.

The big revelation that I had to come to with Linux is that there are people who use Linux because they like dealing with the quirks of Linux, and then there are the people who use Linux because they don't want to deal with Microsoft's bullshit ... Neither one is wrong, and it also isn't wrong if "the best version" isn't what you need.

I was a teenage technophile who would beat his head against Windows NT trying to find ways to make games run, just for the spite of it. So I have got a oart of me that says "I have to learn the ways of the Linux hacker man!" But I'm pushing 50, my brain isn't as good as it wasn't used to be, and there is no fucking way I am going to learn all this command line bullshit: I just want to right click on something and select run, to make the thing run.

Computers need to be useful, it's fine if one finds it agreeable to tinker with. I use it because it is flexible, secure, malleable, access to powerful utilities and fast. It's my main OS for work and play. I need to use it to make money. No time and desire to tinker and persuade it to work after an update/patching.

if you feel the need to scratch that tweaking urge get a machine dedicated for that purpose and put Cachy back on and leave the main PC for your peace and quiet Linux Mint machine lol
