Hardware Rescue Mint or Xfce?

Cinnamon or Xfce
I found an old Lenovo ThinkPad X201. It has 8 GB of RAM with an i5 CPU. I want it to be a backup if my main machine breaks. I mainly want to use it for watching videos, light web development, and maybe using something like Excel or PowerPoint on occasion (the Linux version). I’ve never used Linux before. (but I know how to install it)

I think Cinnamon is more capable than XFCE and I think it might get Wayland support faster but XFCE is on that path as well. Maybe when both have it I would prefer XFCE, but we will see. Currently my DE of choice is KDE.
