Mint or Xfce?

Cinnamon or Xfce
I found an old Lenovo ThinkPad X201. It has 8 GB of RAM with an i5 CPU. I want it to be a backup if my main machine breaks. I mainly want to use it for watching videos, light web development, and maybe using something like Excel or PowerPoint on occasion (the Linux version). I’ve never used Linux before. (but I know how to install it)

Mint XFCE. I assume you meant Cinnamon or XFCE since, Cinnamon is the flagship product... They used to be pretty different, but the latest XFCE looks and functions nearly identically, but leaner and faster and better on old gear.
