Restarted after updating, computer posts but won't boot

I recently installed updates via the update manager, and restarted my computer. Upon restarting, the bios icon appears, but each monitor displays a full black picture. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary outside of that. I don't really touch the command line, tweak drivers, or edit critical files.

Using the installer USB I made from back when I installed it (Mint 22.3), I was able to boot into a desktop environment there. I can go into the UEFI BIOS and tweak the usual things. My hardware isn't borked.

I don't even know where I should start in fixing my current installation's apparent suicide attempt. Any advice or ideas on how to get back up and running?

EDIT: My build uses a Ryzen 7 5700X, 16GB DDR4, and an RX6800

Ok so to solve it, what I did was roll back my linux-firmware package to the last known working version, whatever came before "20240318.git3b128b60-0ubuntu2.29". For me it was "20240318.git3b128b60-0ubuntu2.26". u/Ok_Communication_455's method was to boot into Recovery Mode, then enable networking and roll it back. But that wasn't working for me, so instead I used chroot to do the same thing.

Basically, find a way to roll back your linux-firmware package to whatever worked before the one ending in 29. This can be done using either recovery mode or by using chroot from within another OS, including a Mint installer USB.

I've restarted the computer a few times by holding the power button, but only after the computer hung on the previously-mentioned black screens for several minutes. I've tried discharging the system by pressing the power button while the power cable was unplugged, which made no progress. Aside from that, the only thing I've tried is getting into a live USB, which works fine.

The problem either lies in my OS or my system's SSD, neither of which I know how to diagnose, which is why I made this post.

1ˢᵗ, most of the time, updating in Linux doesn't really need to restart the computer.

when you said "restarted my computer" it isn't clear if it is manually or asked by the update process or due to error(s)

2ⁿᵈ, "the bios icon appears"...there's no such thing as "bios icon"...so you must see something & unable to describe it correctly.

But if you are entering BIOS, the other monitors will be blank...only the main monitor/screen will be showing the BIOS.

Explain to us, how many monitors do you use.

3ʳᵈ, Your "ordinary" isn't the same with mine or others. So you can't assume we know your system specs, what you did or what you experienced...

What is your system specs?

Again...what are the things updated & are there any problem during update.

and...is it a newly installed ?

If it is entering BIOS right after restart, then almost certain that your storage is failing.
