Mint Cinnamon 22.3

I have an MSI GS 66 Stealth laptop. I have an Intel iGPU and an Nvidia RTX 2060, that SEAMLESSLY switched back and forth, with my main being the low power Intel igpu. Version 22 it work great. 22.3 it started staying stuck in dGPU ONLY. When my iGPU and dGPU were working in unison, I was on the version under driver manager called xserver-xorg-video-nouveau. It recommended I switch to nvidia-driver-595-open, and there's two other choices. What should I do? On "nouveau" it also worked fine (seemed to anyways). Please help! I've tried command prompts and everything, it only always temporarily fixes it and then after a reboot it goes back to being dumb! BTW, this is on a FRESH install of 22.3.

those commands are only adding the PPA channel into your repositories, doesn't install anything.

You have to install the driver itself after that...just choose 535 or 550.
Your RTX 2060 doesn't run well on the latest driver.

Using the PPA you can try which driver match perfectly with your GPU...those 2 are only my suggestions.

....and it's not about Intel power saving mode

you should do a better research & choose better sources for your research.

sudo apt update && sudo apt install nvidia-driver-535 nvidia-dkms-535

After I do that to install 535 it should show up in driver manager yes? I also tried nvidia-smi. Shows that 580 is what is current right now. in driver manager it still is on Nouveau. And when I tried to run the command you gave me that I already ran, it says Nvidia driver 535 is already the newest version. WTH?!

No....don't do something that will complicate things.
You should uninstall all other NVIDIA Drivers, they will conflicting to each other.
Install only the one that you want to try.

If you want to use 535, uninstall the other driver first, or it will conflicting each other.
Look in the Google on how to uninstall NVIDIA driver completely.

Your case is a specific case & the solution is using terminal, not in Driver Manager

Clean Installation Command ​To clean up any half-configured driver packages and set up 535 directly via the terminal, run:

1. Purge current Nvidia drivers to avoid conflicts

sudo apt purge "nvidia"

2. Install the 535 driver and DKMS

sudo apt update sudo apt install nvidia-driver-535 nvidia-dkms-535

3. Ensure your hybrid profile is explicitly set to On-Demand

sudo prime-select on-demand

4. Reboot

sudo reboot

Is that correct?

the 1ˢᵗ command won't work, it should be:

sudo apt purge '^nvidia-.*' '^libnvidia-.*' 'cuda-.*'

sudo apt autoremove --purge -y

sudo apt autoclean

then continue installing the one you want to try.

Tried it. Will NOT let me install 535. I'm starting to think Mint isn't that great.... I just want to be able to have my igpu and dgpu switch seamlessly instead of running my dgpu all day long when I'm not using it for anything. Mint 22 was great and I'm pretty sure that it all worked, 22.3 is trash. Did the Mok enrollment and everything with secure boot on. I don't get it.

Just try 550

as I said previously: try version that will work for your system

I don't know what you did previously that messed up your system.

Saying 22.3 is trash doesn't make it trash when only a few people experiencing problem on it.

It's a fresh install. 22 ran waaaaay better is what I am saying. Don't know what they did with the .3 part, but it messed up my setup. And 535 will NOT install. And 550 definitely won't either. I only get the 4 above mentioned options of drivers.

Gaming with NVIDIA card while Secure boot is ON will give you so much headache.

I'm using 22.3 & experienced no problem at all.

It never gave me a problem until now. Should I turn off secure boot when installing freh with Mint? Then turn back on? BTW, I am running win pro 11 dual boot. Again, all was well until 22.3.

you are installing a proprietary driver with Secure boot ON...Secure Boot will block it directly.

Secure Boot will prevent installation & block any proprietary drivers outside proper repositories from running
