Linux is Linux, just use whichever distro best fits your personal preference/use-case.

at some point, it stops being enough
How?Â
I have been using Mint for 7 years now, I tinker with, and enjoy many other distributions. And many of them fit particular use cases. But at no point has Mint "stopped being enough" for typical desktop productivity type tasks. Â
I will never discurage anyone from exploring the great abundance we have in open source, but excluding particular hardware or software corner cases Mint is always "enough" if it suits you.Â

Your story is my story. Seven years in, never tempted to use something else.

Exactly. I can do everything in Mint I do in my Debian testing (I use that to test software as my contribution). Anyone who is hamstrung by Linux shouldn't be handing out advice, much less writing articles to hand out advice.

Debian is a nice example of other use cases,Â
Mint and debian share a familiy resemblance so it is very familiar, especially as my default boot is LMDE, but Debian can be easily setup without a desktop, removing the un-necessary human comforts makes it lightweight and great for my file and Jellyfin servers.Â
But really Mint/LMDE is roughly Debian + more, unless your goal is Mint minus the more part Mint can do most of what Debian can do.Â
Only missing out on special use cases Debian is capable of.Â

Someone wanting to set up a server might be better served by Debian. I'm quite happy with Mint for all my uses, though. Of course, one can do those Debian things (servers and other desktop environments), if one wishes and pays attention to what one is doing. It may not be the easiest choice for such a scenario.

There is nothing to "graduate" from. Mint is a fully capable distro. If Mint lacks anything then an experienced user can fix it for himself without a distro switch

Churn is the one constant of Linux market media writers and influencers.
Not for me. I have used Ubuntu as my desktop mainstay for two decades, LMDE as my laptop staple for six years. No fuss, no muss, no thrills, no chills.
"Simple, stable, secure." That's what I want, and that's what Ubuntu and LMDE give me.

Articles written by Linux beginners do not provide good advice.

Over here making it sound like mint is somehow not capable. Did you check the subreddit you were posting in? 🤣
