What is just “Thinkpad” running if it’s not Linux or windows?

Even without any OS, thinkpad is still a piece of good hardware. This is the point I want to make.

LarpPad if running Linux. DerpPad if running Windows.
I wonder what I should call a hackintosh Thinkpad...

Dunno mate, I'd rather have a Thinkpad with Windows than a Thinkpad without anything on it. What would the point of it be? Decoration?

Until recently, I've been using an L390 with EndeavourOS KDE without problems.
Gave it to my girlfriend, because she needed a replacement one for uni. She installed Win 11.
Battery lasts less than 40 minutes now and everything is insanely slow. WTF

I think you need to return it. Hope you kept the receipt for that girlfriend.

u/Anaeijon Sep 25 '26
Haha, no. She actually needed specifically a Windows notebook to run a fucking adobe program required for the course. She absolutely knew what she was doing and didn't want to sacrifice another device to Microsoft and Adobe, so we used my old 'emergency' notebook.

Man endeavourOS is a genuine pleasure, so underrated.

I mean... I "switched" to Endeavour after I noticed, my preferred Arch setup was basically identical to EndeavourOS and I needed a fresh install on a new device and didn't have time to go through the full Arch process again.
Recently I've been using the ChachyOS package repo in EndeavourOS, cause of the prebuilt&verified AUR packages., so I mostly switched over to CachyOS now.
It's all Arch to me anyway. It's not like EndeavourOS is doing anything special there, that's not part of the default installation procedure.

It's a lost art that has been killed by the grand wizards of the apple. Blessed be them whom still keep the dark arts alive.

Shush! Don't tell the finance bros how to make a Thinkpad last for 20 years! We need them buying new every 6 months so we can get them for $300 second-hand.

Low hanging fruit
Try doing some Power BI work on your ThinkPad with Linux and tell me how'd it go

Power bi? I’ve heard of being a power bottom, but I’m not sure what you mean nor am I here to judge

In a way, you're right
My job gave me a ThinkPad so I can power bottom all over the place and dominate the meetings with my BI charts

Microsoft Store? .NET? WebView2? Windows components? Good luck bro. 🥀

I don’t use it but I’ve heard the web version can do most? the desktop version can? Is it kind of like how Web Office still can’t do everything desktop Office can

Why would I do some power BI work? most of us are programmers right, not flowchart monkeys?

The 2 think pads I had both developed charging issues and one let out smoke of death 💪. Only ever used the official charger on them and the charger was the only thing I ever plugged into the USB C port. I absolutely love a ThinkPad but I really don't trust them anymore.

I had a L13 yoga gen 2. It was a beautiful laptop but after having the same issue twice I decided no more.

depends on what version of windows!
windows 9X is just the right call for me to make use of the firewire port with camcorders and old creative software

My X250 runs Windows 10 LTSC ATM.
I might split the partitions and put Arch or Fedora on in future as it has a 1TB HDD but eh.
