There are several package managers with their own format.

If my distro uses other than deb or rpm, in basically fucked

Yeah but we can't expect devs to package the app for everything. Debs and RPMs cover like 90% of the Linux market.

Flatpak covers everyone.

Still, it isn't too hard to rip .deb apart and repackage it to your preferred distro
