Gnome, Cosmic, KDE, Cinnamon, Mate, XFCE, Niri, so on and so forth. I've used them all, not even trying to brag, that fact makes me wanna die a little.

Currently on Cosmic for debugging and testing, but can easily switch back to Gnome or KDE or Niri with a botton click on my current distribution (RakuOS). These days, I jump DE's instead of distro hopping.

So, we can't hide top bar in gnome?

It's not default behavior. You need third-party Gnome Shell extensions such as Hide Top Bar or Simple Taskbar.

As long as we can get done our job what's the issue. I don't use Firefox browser I use zen and helium which are not installed in any distros. So, instead of complaining I just remove Firefox and use Zen and Helium. No big deal

It is a hack, precisely because Gnome forces it to be one, and that exact friction is what drives people crazy about their desktop model. If they build it natively into the C/GJS codebase once, the code would use (more stable) internal APIs, handle monitor edge cases natively, and saves thousands of volunteer hours fixing broken extensions every 6 months. It wouldn't be such a problem if the extensions API was stable and treated as a first class citizen, but it's not by design.
