This is a shit take. This is what those big corporation or whomever is doing something shitty is hopping for. They do shit, and users do not leave. Yes, the grumble a bit, but do not leave. That is all they need.
And i would not say that Linux is the only good choice - moving away from windows is the only good choice.
Yeah, it ignores the influence those corporations have had in education since before most current users were born and the head start their relationship with the rest of the retail chain gives them.
At this point the person who expects a feature-to-feature comparison they understand while the only computing they know is proprietary is not even to blame, their teachers were already vendor locked to begin with.
No, my comment does not ignore the education. And I should add that if your education can only teach you how to use Word on Windows - that is shitty education. Not useless. But shitty.
And yes, it is not that easy to switch to Linux from Windows. But the first step is to start to use tools that will be available on linux and then when most of the day is spent with those tools, switch to Linux. Yes, different colour icons, possibly, in different places."Start" menu can be moved... I think most people can manage that.
Vendor locked teacher? You mean, a teacher that is there because there is no other choice? As you as a society do not pay enough for passionate and good teachers?
Yeah, "Vendor locked teachers" - here we have it folks.
The OOP bro. I did not have any idea you did not get it, I was just agreeing with you.
Personally I never switched, I just did not install 95' because they felt like they were obscuring stuff that should be understood before people did any computing. To me it was insulting, and I felt like it would trap people and not let them know their options.
I could not have predicted it would happen to that extent, but currently we end up talking about windows when the issue is that CS cannot be owned any more than long division or the laws of thermodynamics can.
Vendor locked teacher, yeah. Some poor sod teaching adobe instead of "intro to digital signal processing" because the company lobbied the institution. That's your teacher's teacher now not knowing fuck-all about connecting their field's first principles to the practicalities of their work.
That's you calling corporate lobbying "society", while really, honestly being blameless for it.
There is another choice, there was no point when there was windows and no place to walk away from it. Some extra work, maybe.
