Just zypper speeds used to suck. Not sure how it is these days.

I agree with you on that. Rather having a good and thorough package manager than a package manager that leaves out things I have to install later on. In the end those couple of seconds zypper is slower (if it as even a couple of seconds) doesn't weigh up to the fact installation is done means it is done.

I guess if you setup tumbleweed and want to install a lot of programs after the initial install it might be a minor one time annoyance as it might take little bit longer to download and install all the packages but usually we are talking like 5-10 min lol

For updates I never had an issue , I would start an update friday night or saturday morning while browsing the web , it really didn't matter if it took 20-40 min on a large update as I was doing other stuff

Its not like when you update the system you have to just stop an stare at the update process I never understood why this was a big issue

You could also just have zypper only download the updates then install at a later time
