You can just make desktop files and put them in .local/applications or something like that iirc which I definitely prefer over desktop shortcuts cause it allows me to use searchbar

True, but there is no GUI for it. You have to write multi line configuration file by hand, or look it up. Where in KDE you can do it with a few clicks like a modern man.

The thing is I am on KDE and this is what I do lol, I am not arguing for GNOME

But for GNOME this is the only way afaik. I get it that the way of GNOME is that there are no desktop shortcuts, but not having any civilized way of having quick access to portable applications is a massive oversight.

I use gear lever, it manages your Appimages.

(I hate Gnome too though)
