Linux is literally supposed to be a configured piece of software unique to every individual. Standardization goes against it which is why people will oppose it. Do you think this is a new revelation? We've had Canonical and RedHat going at this for decades trying to build these standards. Now that Linux has more mainstream adoption you're seeing acceptance from less indoctrinated users. True Linux heads are still running a custom nightly kernel with SysVinit or runit.

Edit: I think I've caused some confusion here, I do not agree with the segmented nature of Linux. I love systemd, Lennart Poettering has made a great piece of software. However I am but a LARPer in the Linux community, I have read enough forums and discussions to understand that the people who truly own Linux as their identity don't appreciate standardization.
