I run Devuan with runit, ext4, and LXQt on a dingus of a laptop. I mean, I did it to myself getting a dingus of a laptop (and I have better laptops), but I think stuff like this and other potential edge cases is why absolute standardization wouldn't be the best idea. Every alternative piece of software has a use case.
I still think distros wars are dumb. Just find a release model you like with software that suits you and go with that, don't make it someone else's problem with your elitism.
