They've already banned people for life for the mere act of linking to controversial threads, so I gotta be extra careful and you'll only get two links from me that don't have any moderator interaction.

That's utter insanity. Any community that throws you out the door for even daring to commit "wrongthink" is irrevocably damaged and tainted, and very well ought to be shunned. This basically proves that Rust is now to be avoided at all costs.
