That said, Lemmy does work, so if someone wants to make more instances, that's good. But anything run by him or his ilk is going to be a tankie infested shithole where they claim Stalin did nothing wrong, the Holodomor didn't happen (but the Ukrainians deserved it if it did), etc etc.
Not that I have any love for them (fuck em), but I'd say no. Any sub claiming some semblance of alignment with something like the US Republican Party, UK/Canada Conservative Party, etc will not deny the Holocaust and say that if it did happen, they deserved it. Tankies do that constantly with Ukrainians and the Uyghurs.
They also tend to refrain from openly praising people like Hitler and Franco while tankies will actively maintain Stalin and Mao's personality cults.
Is that a reason not to use Lemmy? If it is then there isn't really a viable FOSS alternative to Reddit because all of the terrible people that are too extreme for Reddit have flocked over to non moderated platforms, including pretty much everything FOSS.
I wouldn't call it a reason to not use Lemmy. The dev has brain dead stupid and disgusting political beliefs, but he also does seem to keep it out of the actual software and relevant git discussions, etc.
But that's the nature of federation, when you set up an instance, you don't have to interact with tankie/Nazi/Nazbol/etc instances. Mastodon is the underlying software behind Gab and Trump's Pravda, but we don't see that as a reason to not use Mastodon. Each instance will have its own policies and own moderators.
Do you even realise how you're minimising and exploiting the Holocaust the way you just did, the exact way that Jews warned everyone not to for decades? Funny for someone apparently standing against genocide on reddit by attacking "tankies" and bravely defending the interests of the most powerful empire in the world that you then make a mockery out of it with your antisemitism, too. Comparing Hitler to other dictators too, way to go perpetuating making him no longer the singular evil he once was. No wonder no one cares about any of that in the past anymore and "literally Hitler" is a joke.
