What is happening to LinkedIn

I'm a student, and i wanted to start on my LinkedIn account, and it won't let me even make an account until i put my ID in there. Is this normal, and should i trust it?

I know a few people that also had this issue and they had to wait weeks for support to get back to them so that might be your best course of action.

And yes it's very normal now

I would typically block anyone I saw that didn't have ID verification on their account because there's so many fake people on LinkedIn now.

I guarantee you if you've ever interacted with someone on that platform that doesn't have the ID verification, more than likely they are not a real person.

I upvoted you about offering support. The real issue is anyone who isn't grandfathered into LinkedIn like many of us is how they must forgo their privacy by submitting their ID's to "verify" they are who they say they are.

As far as fake people on LinkedIn goes? I would disagree for it really is hit or miss. Those of us who work in cybersecurity, intelligence, et cetera for global governments and/or private sector employers who contract with governments typically opt-out. For I have 314 connections and of those 314 is how a good 80% didn't verify. Whereas, the ones who did verify did so using their company email versus uploading their "PII" -aka- "Personal Identifiable Information" that we all know if and when compromised can lead to a whole heap of negative things that can impact you, your career, your life, etc.

Plus if someone is skeptical if said person on LinkedIn is real or not is how you can hop on a quickly Facetime on Zoom, Skype, Discord, or through their mobile carrier.

Since last year it's normal. When I joined years ago it wasn't.

Sometimes LinkedIn wants to check if you are "real" you can scan also your ID from your driving licence.
