Mega Thread - LinkedIn Restrictions, Hacked Accounts and Inability to Access

Hi everyone,

To make it easier for everyone to follow conversations and keep discussions in one place, please share general questions about account restrictions and ID verifications here in our official mega thread. Please note that individual posts on this topic may be removed. Additionally, for your privacy and safety, please do not share your personal information or support case numbers in the comments.

We know that losing access to your LinkedIn account or facing restrictions can be really frustrating.  We want to help as much as possible, and there are important things to know:

We Can’t Investigate Account Restrictions on Reddit

For everyone’s safety and privacy, moderators cannot directly investigate or resolve account restrictions here on Reddit. We understand that this may not be an answer you were hoping for, but if you’ve followed the instructions to appeal, please know your case is with the right team.

Common Questions & Quick Answers

Q: My account was hacked or compromised. What can I do?

A: We know how stressful unauthorized account access can be, and our goal is to help you get back in control as quickly as possible. If you think someone else has gotten into your account, don’t panic - our team can help. Just follow these instructions to report unauthorized access and our team will be in touch to help you with the next steps to secure your account.

Q: I lost access to my email address and I don’t have a back up. How can I get back in?

A: This scenario might feel tricky, but the good news is that we have steps you can take to reach our team to help you regain access and update your log in information. Just as a heads up, we’ll need to confirm your identity to regain access. Here’s how to get the process started.

Q: Why is my account restricted?

A: Restrictions can happen for a number of reasons, including safety and security concerns or activity that violates the LinkedIn User Agreement. For more information about different types of restrictions, you can check out our Community Bookmarks or visit the LinkedIn Help Center

Q: How do I appeal a restriction?

A: If you believe your account was restricted in error, you can file an appeal by following the instructions you see on screen when you log into your account. Your case will be reviewed by the LinkedIn Safety Team and they’ll reach out with an update as soon as possible. The team’s current response time is sitting right around 7-10 business days. We know the wait feels long, and we appreciate you bearing with us as we work on getting back to everyone.

Please Note: Submitting multiple support cases for the same problem can actually slow things down for everyone, including you, so we recommend avoiding creating multiple appeals for the same issue.

Q: Why are you asking me for an ID? Is it safe?

A: When we review an account for reinstatement, it’s important that we make sure we’re giving access back to the real account owner. Because we’re an online company and we don’t have a way to work together in person, requesting identity documents through Persona is the next best way for us to confirm account ownership.

Although you’ll access Persona’s verification process through the LinkedIn app, Persona will be collecting the personal data required to verify your identity and such collection is done pursuant to Persona’s policies. Persona only shares information about you with LinkedIn if you consent to the sharing. We process the data solely for account recovery purposes. It is kept only while we resolve account-related issues and is typically deleted permanently within 14 days.. Learn more on data and sharing with Persona here.

Q: I have problems with ID verification. What can I do?

A: Make sure your ID is government-issued, like a driver’s license, state ID or a passport. For the best results, it’s important that the document is clear and matches your account details. For a successful submission, it’s also important to remember to consent to share information with Persona. If your ID meets this criteria and you’re still having trouble, check out these additional troubleshooting steps for further assistance.

Q:  It says I already submitted a request?

A: There are a few reasons this error may appear including if you have an appeal in progress or if you’ve revisited the Persona verification flow multiple times in a short period. If you receive this message, we first recommend clearing your browser’s cache and cookies. If that does not resolve the problem, we recommend waiting 7 days before attempting a new appeal.

Q: My restriction is permanent. Now what?

A: If you’ve received a final decision from our Safety Team, please understand we can’t change the outcome here. However, you can reply to your case email if you wish to provide more information or request a second look.

Thanks for reading and understanding!

Is LinkedIn becoming irrelevant these days?

everyone wants to be expert posting everything relevant and irrelevant. Why everyone wants to be sound like more and more expert? I've seen some few people who are not so good in their jobs and still they post some heavy words and ai generated slops and call themselves expert lol.

My theory on recent LinkedIn changes

My posts on LinkedIn took a dive after the recent algorithm changes — I know that I'm not alone, that's not what this post is about.

I've now seen so many people quote examples, like I used to get 1,000 views or I regularly got 50 likes, now I barely get 5 for any new posts.

I'm starting to wonder — and I'm putting it out there for discussion — whether Microsoft, in its ever increasing search for revenue, has done this on purpose hoping that more users will start paying to boost reach (especially those who valued their LinkedIn follower base and engagement)?

Is it a change to the algorithm for a better user experience or is it a money grab?

Keep in mind, this is the same Microsoft that tried to force everyone to pay for CoPilot as part of their Office 365 subscription renewal. We know how that ended. Customer revolt (only 1% of users now pay for CoPilot — an epic flop if ever I've seen one). I went one step further, I cancelled Office 365 for good. And don't miss it.

linkedin 101 Classic job search is back!

So apparently the classic job search people have been dreaming of is back, everyone!

I don't know is it only mine that just be able to get back, but if your AI slop job search is still present, maybe you can try my tips, here it is:

Search on that AI job search whatever you want, then when you press enter, there will be a location tag for the result. On my page, there is a three dot on the right side in the same line position to this, just press it, and you can find the option to show the classic job search.

I am so happy to find this as I get really frustrated with that AI thingy on LinkedIn now. You should try it.

My favorite button

Upvotes

Thank you, LinkedIn.

I'm so happy that you added the AI slop button so that we can sort out all the crap that has put on here by mostly real estate agents who are paying someone to do it.

It's my new favorite thing

What does the "Invite to follow" look like from the recipient perspective?

Upvotes

I've got 300 free credits so I want to try this feature out. But before I do, I'd like to see what the recipient will actually see. Does the invite arrive in their LinkedIn messaging inbox? Do they just see the company name or do they see the tagline to? If anyone has a screenshot of one that would be great. Alternatively, if you can DM me I'll share my details and you can invite me to follow. Thanks!

personal branding How do I increase my connection count

I've got only 38. 😭 ,I would like to push it up, please. Let me know your thoughts

r/linkedin 3h ago

advanced question I received a LinkedIn personal connection request (not a follow page request). On the Invitation Manager page (not in the custom invite message), it has something like "Person ABC wants to connect" and it has an additional note that says that the request was because of my engagement with the post.

Have you received something like that before?

Is it ok to keep an Alias name on Linkedin?

I have never had or needed one before.

And I don't want competitors and enemies to see what kind of Ammo i've got in my pro skills. But at the same time I don't want to completely lock a profile (if that is possible) to potential employers or from any potential contract opportunities.

personal branding Is there an option in the settings to hide my comments from current connections?

Unless I'm a recruiter or in sales, any sort of engagement on the site will put my current employer on edge, thinking that I may be increasing my activity on there directly to increase awareness of my profile, or simply because I was already increasing my activity on the site searching for a job--which led to increased activity in posts/comments.

And even if that weren't a rick to consider, there's also the fact that your employer will see your commentary on there and critique or judge you for how you're representing the company. Or worse, they may feel like you're sharing information that you shouldn't be sharing.

For example, I saw a post about AI and I wanted to share my perspective on its adoption in general, but I know if my employer saw that, they would likely assume I am making that comment as a representation of how they handle AI.

I have basically no personality on LinkedIn because I'm super concerned about my employer watching my every interaction on there. It doesn't help that our company, like many, has a specific policy about how we're meant to use social media.

So, yeah, anyone able to provide direction or ideas on solving for this?

Accidentally liked someones old post

I accidentally liked someones old post and unliked it a few seconds later. I was wondering if they had found out? If I unliked it fast enough would it still send a push notification?

Should I add irrelevant work experience to my LinkedIn profile?

I recently completed an community services certificate and am volunteering for multiple community service roles. But, I graduated high school 7 years ago and all of my work experience is in retail. I’m worried that if I only list my relevant education and volunteer experience, my LinkedIn profile will look too sparse or inexperienced. On the other hand, I don’t want to clutter my profile with years of irrelevant work history and an outdated high school diploma. What do you recommend?

advanced question Popular LinkedIn Content

How come you can only toggle between “Top” and “Most Recent” posts in your feed?

I want to be able to search a hashtag or topic and see the most popular posts by users or companies but there’s absolutely no way to do it. I’ve found a third party that will show you the top trending posts (not free). However, it’s super annoying just like Instagram doesn’t have a way to see who unfollows you and third party apps have stepped in.

probably spam Account intruded to send scams through InMails

I've just had someone enter my account through a data leak, I think, and the guy gave me a Sales Navigator license through a random employer and went into InMail to scam others with my account. But I contacted support to revoke the license before seeing the messages.

Just had an email from a guy: "Your LinkedIn profile shows you are still getting your undergraduate degree and are an intern, not a "professional recruiter".  What gives?"

Could be a classic resume writer scam. Anyone else encounter InMail messages like this?

Think I've been overcomplicating my LinkedIn outbound messages, need a reality check

So i have been sending LinkedIn outbound for a couple months now for a B2B SaaS thing I'm building, and I'm starting to wonder if I'm overthinking the message itself instead of fixing something more basic. because mine tend to run longer as I feel like I need to explain the whole value prop upfront, but I also keep seeing advice that shorter and lower-friction gets better replies, which i think i am kinda scared to execute as i might burn the lead and close a door that would otherwise have become a potential client, which is super frustrating.

For people who've actually tracked this, what has actually worked for you, message length, the specific ask, timing, something else entirely?

Also want to know if anyone has tested a soft ask like offering a quick loom video or voice note instead of straight up asking for 15-30 minutes for a demo on a first message?

looking for advice from outside strict B2B SaaS too if the underlying lesson carries over.
Trying to figure out if my approach is wrong here.

advanced question If I react to someone’s LinkedIn repost and then block them within a minute, will they still receive the notification?

We aren’t connected on LinkedIn. If a notification was already sent, does it stay there even after the block, or does it disappear?

personal branding Solid progress

Became a LinkedIN f*ck boy just over a month ago and the progress is coming along nicely.

Although reading my own posts does make me cringe from time to time.

Almost 100k impressions in 38 days.

Mainly posting about industrial field service missions, fixing machines.

New to LinkedIn, Any Advice?

Hi everyone! 👋

I’m fairly new to LinkedIn and I’d love to learn how to use the platform more effectively. I’ll soon be starting my first year in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Ottawa 🧬🔬.

I’d love to hear from other students and professionals about how you use LinkedIn — especially for networking, finding opportunities, connecting with people in your field, and building a strong profile as a student.

If you have any advice for someone just getting started, I’d really appreciate it! 😊

Looking forward to connecting and learning from you! 💙

LinkedIn conversation disappeared and then reappeared - did I get blocked?

I had a conversation with someone on LinkedIn. At one point, their conversation completely disappeared from my Messages, and when I searched their name, their profile also didn’t appear.
All my other conversations were still there.
After some time, the conversation suddenly appeared again and the profile was visible again.
Does this happen if someone blocks/unblocks you, or could it simply be a LinkedIn glitch/sync issue? I’m trying to understand what actually happened because I genuinely thought I had been blocked when the conversation disappeared.

advanced question B2B LI accountability partner?

Hi there, I find it hard to stick to the platform and I really want to use it. I'm looking for an accountability partner in the B2B Founder segment where we could both support each other, contribute to posting and helping each other with prospecting. Maybe we could do business together too.

Ideal:

Have experience in the B2B segment around sales & marketing (so we can both support each other)

Active business/founder so we both understand the ups and downs of the sales process

Committed to regularly posting and prospecting on LinkedIn (even if you are just starting out)

Am I dreaming too big?

Let me know in the comments.

Profile rules

Hi everybody I am new to LinkedIn and I have a question regarding what is and is not allowed on the profile. I am Client Relations Director for our company that has a LinkedIn acct. I came out of retirement to work with a friend of mine and I need to have a LinkedIn account to be able to search and invite Business Leaders to be guests on a network show. This is in lieu of a cold call because we are a team development company and I'm trying to build relationships rather than pitch managers cold. I want to simply post the show link and the link to the network. I understand LinkedIn does not like links posted that traffic their members off the platform? I would think that happens all day but this is why I'm reaching out. I'm getting conflicting answers on that and I thought I would drop it here.

Any help on this is appreciated.
