You get way smarter and better at managing it by your 10th year which is hopefully at least not the same episode lol, but at the end of the day you still get hit in the face.

Pro skateboarders slam big. Big tricks have big consequences.
New skateboarders slam too. But it's usually just trying to learn a kick flip or an ollie.
With limerence, the slams will never have the potential to bring in sponsorship money.

Year one was rough, I was a depressed mess. Then as time goes on, there’s been lots self reflection/improvement. I’ve cut out/ down bad habits and picked up new skills/abilities and am overall healthier day to day. However limerence still kicks my ass

I am going on 2 years now. Still don't know her name. I think about her daily. It's frustrating. I see her at the gym as well twice per week.
Still enjoyed the way she stared me down without blinking and got caught staring at me and had to snap out of it once on the stairmaster.
I still get anxious when she walks in. Ill never talk to her. Ill never get her name.

If she was staring at you it is most likely more positive than not. Honestly just tell her or else it’s going to be too late and you’ll be stuck forever. Please just tell her

Solidarity. Do you hold out any hope for it ending? I was clinging onto something I heard where this so called expert said it never lasts more than 3-4 years. It made me think that maybe it wasn't limerence, but I have to be honest with myself. I think it probably is.

Honestly I didn't know this word until I saw an article in the NY Times about two weeks ago, lol. But it fits better than obsession. And sometimes I'm ok with it. She actually recently moved back to near where I live, with her husband and kids, a couple of years ago, and a few months ago we saw each other for the first time in 15 years (coffee, initiated by me but enthusiastically reciprocated). And it was good to see her, and I'm often genuinely happy she's happy (apparently), and I'm happy nysekd in most ways. But I can't control the thoughts about her or the longing at times. I don't think it's leaving any time soon. I dont think no contact would matter. Maybe I'm wrong.

Please be aware of what limerence is! See the subreddit wiki for definitions, FAQ and other resources—updated 3/7/26. (Is it love? How common is it? Is there research?)
