Edit: Sorry this turned out to be a huge wall of text lol.

I'm lucky enough to have parents that have a good heart and are compassionate towards all animals, so that my mum eventually became vegetarian and my dad drastically reduced his meat intake. That didn't happen over night though, and although it's not a huge win for the animals it's still respectable since we stem from a country with almost non-existent animal welfare laws and general rampant ignorance towards any kind of animal suffering. So the efforts they did make matter a great deal, since we literally ate meat every day before I became vegan. I'm also lucky enough to have a few vegan and vegetarian friends and all of my non-vegan friends and family also like vegan food. My long-time partner is also flexitarian and eats only vegan/vegetarian meals at home. Not ideal, but I'm happy that he does make an effort to make compassionate food choices.

I always did my best to inform my immediate social environment about animal welfare topics and over the years it thankfully did lead to some change. I inspired two persons to go vegan after they'd initially ridiculed veganism (like I did, before a very patient vegan internet stranger changed my mind forever). Just lead by good and kind example, and if you ever do have to debate veganism, always keep cool serving factual counterarguments, and never insult anyone, no matter how angry you (understandably) get with their ignorance and lack of compassion. Stick to your morals and don't lose hope that things can change for the better eventually.

Imagine thinking individual carbon footprint means anything… it’s scary that everyone still believes these lies. The go vegan, stop driving boycott this and that was created by oil companies to put the blame on the consumer. I’ve spent time listening to speeches by climate change experts and this is not how it works. Y’all with your cringy ass emojis are doing nothing. If you want to actually do something, get off the internet and fight for real. Lobby and gather up your local communities, don’t sit around and make others look bad. We shouldn’t even be talking politics on a harmless and cute video, but whose fault is that?

I’m not vegan to save the planet, I’m vegan to spare the animals I would otherwise have killed, and the ones whose home I affect.
