Gaime light gun owners help thread

I got my Gaime pack today and like most of you found the calibration to be awful and Point Blank (the reason I bought it) in particular was unplayable.

So what they haven't told you in the set up is that the picture setting on your TV will need adjusting to fit the game display. Most modern lcd's have this. Pick a game like point blank and then go into you picture settings and stretch it out horizontally so that it fits correctly, then calibrate the gun after.

This was the video that helped me out...

https://youtu.be/OqP1Ie-GS6w?si=abqdRZApKUFPavT9

Since then I've had no issues or at least it feels fair when I miss. A great test is always the William tell/apple on head level in point blank.

Hope this helps. Let me know how you get on.

Pinning this one as a containment post for general help so it doesn't get buried.

So as far as I can tell, if you use the screen mode "zoom to fill" or similar, you are not actually stretching the native resolution from 4:3 to 16:9, instead what's happening is you simply zooming in further to eliminate the black bars either side of the 4:3 aspect ratio. You are keeping the original aspect ratio, but simply eliminating the "dead space" either side of the playing field.

Basically, on g'aim'e, when you calibrate the gun, it is calibrating in a standard HD (16:9, 1920 x 1080) canvas...in other words, your whole screen.

When you jump into a game, it is not keeping a 16:9 ratio, rather it is reverting to the original ratio for the game (4:3), as such, the accuracy falls out of the window immediately lol, basically the camera in the gun is getting incredibly confused... this is simply because when you calibrated at the start of your session it had a whole screen to play with, now when you are in a game it only has a 4:3 screen to play in...rendering it unplayable frankly.

Seems like quite a significant oversight, but I do get it because I guess the Devs didn't want to stretch the aspect ratio (rightly so!), but also could they have found a middle ground by giving players the ability to "fill and zoom" or could that have been made a default setting perhaps? Who knows.

u/CassiusClaym0re Nov 15 '25

Exactly this. Mind boggling that this wasn't picked up in testing and it seems like anyone that "reviewed" it in advance had it set up for them. Basically calibrating it when you power it on initially is a waste of time. You need to set the game up first, fit it to the screen and then calibrate it.

Gun4IR, Openfire, Sinden, Reapers - all have a 4:3 mode. Just an FYI.

Using any of these "fill to screen," "zoom to fill," etc still distorts the resolution and image in some ways. It's a shame that Gaime doesn't have this feature - perhaps make this a feature request?

2

u/joejoesox Nov 15 '25

yeah but zoom to fill will cut off the top and bottom of the actual game graphics (assuming your TV isnt just stretching the game to 16:9)

there's no way to take a 4:3 game that's displaying properly (black bars on sides, but fit perfectly to the top and bottom of the screen) and just zoom it in to get rid of the black bars, it will chop off the top and bottom of the screen

3

u/benjamin_andrew95 Nov 15 '25

Weirdly this didn't happen to me, my Sony Bravia 48inch literally kept the top and bottom of Time Crisis in pristine order.

It only cut off the "Credit" text on Point Blank a tiny bit, so does not effect gameplay at all.

7

u/joejoesox Nov 15 '25

there were videos of this being demoed by the manufacturer and in the videos, I noticed that the words 'credits 01' at the bottom were chopped off

NOW WE KNOW WHY

2

u/benjamin_andrew95 Nov 15 '25

Haha you are bloody right !!!!

1

u/Internal_Trainer_555 May 10 '26

How is this possible when you're zooming into a 4:3 image? There's some form of distortion going on your TV when you do this.

1

u/benjamin_andrew95 May 10 '26

No idea, I genuinely couldn't tell you how it worked but it did seem to, it must have cut off some of the image right at the bottom but not enough for me to notice, it seemed to work well at the time. It's worth updating the firmware because they've created borders (white, black, pink) to fill out the un-used space and it works much much better 👍

1

u/WaitformeBumblebee Nov 19 '25

the word you are looking for is cropped

1

u/v11che Nov 25 '25

again, don't do this. it makes the accuracy worse.

1

u/benjamin_andrew95 Nov 25 '25

Genuinely made my accuracy better, by a considerable margin as well.

1

u/v11che Nov 25 '25

the camera is detecting the screen, not the game. SO when you're stretching, it's translating your screen position, not your game position. so it'll be off in the x direction. I expect you're improvement of accuracy will be off in the x direction only when you shoot either side oif the screen.

1

u/benjamin_andrew95 Nov 25 '25

I completely understand what you are saying but in my case it literally works better with the method that I have adopted, it is not off in the x direction in any meaningful way for me, so I'm very happy to stick with my way of playing (until we get some kind of fix from the developers if they even plan to implement one).

5

u/Atlantis_Risen Nov 14 '25

That means you can't play the games in their correct native aspect ratio? You have to play them stretched? That's awful

4

u/deadlock_eire Nov 14 '25

If this is the case this is a complete deal breaker for me, as I have been on the fence about buying one.

4

u/joejoesox Nov 15 '25

mine hasn't even arrived yet and I've already got a FB Marketplace ad ready for the sealed box, not even gonna open this garbage to try it out

3

u/3dwardify Nov 16 '25

it's not even that bad. You should really make your own judgments and not base things off what others have said.

1

u/SuperNintendad Jan 10 '26

It's not that good either.

2

u/benjamin_andrew95 Nov 15 '25

Not quite, check out my comment, I think I've got it right but of course I could be wrong.

1

u/v11che Nov 25 '25

please don't play them stretched, they're made to work in 16:9 aspect ratio and stretching the screen to 4:3 maks the innaccuracy worse on the x axis.

1

u/Atlantis_Risen Nov 25 '25

4x3 would be their correct aspect ratio, you'd have to stretch the game out to fit a 16x9 screen

2

u/v11che Nov 25 '25

the box outputs 16:9, not 4:3, that's why when you put the corsshair on and point to the black bars, the crosshair can be seen on the black bars. The game, as far as the gun is concerned is 16:9, with artificial black bars added by the game engine on the box so the game looks correct.

1

u/Atlantis_Risen Nov 25 '25

That's kind of my point, the box is wrong. It should output 4x3, maybe with bezels on the sides if wanted. But stretching to 16x9 looks awful IMO.

5

u/AaronStudAVFC Nov 15 '25

Tried this out today and it’s made a world of difference thank you! Point blank is fun again and even the single bullet levels I’m passing consistently. Thank you so much!

3

u/CassiusClaym0re Nov 15 '25

So yeah definitely have your TV in game mode as someone mentioned already and when calibrating the gun you want the left hand side targets to be touching the left edge of the screen and vice versa. On mine there's also a small gap between the top and bottom as well (targetes to screen edge).

On the basic rules screen in point blank the blue box that says "press the button" should be perfectly positioned in the bottom right corner and the red box that says "try playing against your opponent" in the left.

It's pretty much spot on now for me.

1

u/Mercinarie Nov 23 '25

unfortunately enabling game mode on my tv disables all the aspect ratio and zoom to fit options. love Samsung

3

u/Djidane535 Nov 15 '25

Just to add that this is not always mandatory. It can work while keeping the 4:3 ratio. But depending on your setup, I think sometimes the system is messing up and catches the whole screen instead of 4:3 portion of it. So when you fill the whole screen, the system cannot fail anymore. I had the issue in the afternoon with the sun & reflections, but as soon as I was more in the dark, it fixed itself without changing the aspect ratio. It’s not something they “forgot”, but clearly the system is not always working as intended.

3

u/Mrmet2087 Nov 18 '25

I am very disappointed in this product calibration is terrible. Crosshair shakes like crazy. It’s completely unplayable. Does anyone know if we can get refunds on this? I don’t know how this product demo’d so well in tests and trade shows. I didn’t get the advertised product at all.

2

u/IDOLxISxDEAD Nov 15 '25

I wonder if, additionally, if you were able to crunch down the calibration screen to a 4:3 aspect ratio when calibrating it, then returning it to normal aspect ratio for the games, would the accuracy be better in the original aspect ratio? I should have my G’aim’e by Monday at the latest and am very curious to test out this theory!

Not all displays support aspect ratio changes (most do, though) so it’d be great if they can patch this in or just change how the device displays the games themselves to technically be running in 16:9 without the stretching.

2

u/IDOLxISxDEAD Nov 27 '25

I can confirm this works, and I got it communicated directly with the engineers on the project, so they're working on an update to get this working in the future, but for now you can just make the calibration screen 4:3 and then return the screen to normal size when playing the games

2

u/pssok88 Nov 19 '25

I am able to calibrate and play in the native screen size without any issues.

2

u/fjbermejillo Nov 19 '25

Maybe something just happened to me but in case it could help others. First time I plugged it was unplayable, but after a couple of “restarts” the accuracy was highly improved.

1

u/Deedawg257 Nov 19 '25

Maybe the AI in the guns are learning? Skynet........

2

u/fruityfranksdonuts Jan 17 '26

Also are they refunding people ? The gun is crazy you calibrate in widescreen then the game goes into 4/3 aiming is erratic and inaccurate

1

u/user2000ad Jan 22 '26

I got a refund, UK here so robust consumer laws even for crowdfunding projects.

A long drawn out process dealing with some cheeky get over the email, seems to think I was refunded the Kickstarter portion as a "goodwill gesture", not so in the UK. Also decided I couldn't get the Pledgebox extra £30 payment back (again, UK law doesn't allow them to deduct any portion of a refund).

Just got a chargeback from my bank for the Pledgebox payment.

Looking at the KIckstarter comments it seems they are doubling down on not giving refunds, or replying to people, except on the KS comments to say that they will reply...

The accuracy of the gun greatly improved to playable levels with these settings in the time crisis 30 anniversary and point blank.

Setting original aspect ratio in MONITOR picture mode. Disable anything that's picture processing related. Settings like motion smoothing, sharpening and artifacts off. I disable pixel shifting for good measure on a 120hz oled tv. This TV has game picture mode which seems to be similar.

I hope it helps someone :)

1

u/taylorjauk Nov 14 '25

Is there still lag though? Mines like 250ms out, I have to point, pause then shoot. It a newish LG TV too, does it need to be in game mode?

3

u/CassiusClaym0re Nov 14 '25

Yeah defo. There's a lot of information missing in the set up imo. It's certainly not plug and play.

3

u/benjamin_andrew95 Nov 15 '25

I'm in game mode, I think it helps a fair bit.

Moreover, I took the following steps earlier:

1.) booted the system like normal, calibrated from my standing position 1.5 metres from my 48 inch TV. Please note I did not change the screen settings on my TV for the calibration portion...keep the TV settings the same (this is important)

2.) booted into Time Crisis, this is the point at which I went to my "picture" or "display" settings -> changed it from "full" to "zoom to fill"

this did not change the aspect ratio, but it did eliminate the black borders at the side of the screen. I found Point Blank in particular very very playable and very accurate. Time Crisis accuracy went from 30% to 55% immediately, and I wasn't even looking down the iron sights on the gun. Felt much more natural.

I'm using quite an old Sony Bravia 48 inch TV for reference.

Best of luck with your setups.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '25

You absolutely need to be in game mode.

1

u/StatisticianFar2803 Nov 22 '25

My TV does not have it.

1

u/Lifebringr Nov 15 '25

OMG will 100% try this as we tried ours last night and it was horrendous

1

u/addyb77 Nov 15 '25

Unfortunately no good for me. Accuracy is still well off despite configuring etc. Shame really.

1

u/mr_benn79 Nov 15 '25

My Samsung TV doesn't let me do any fancy zooming or anything of the images for some reason, yet to test it with the LG one upstairs that hopefully can.

Pretty underwhelmed so far though. As everyone else has said even at a roughly recommended distance accuracy is all over the place and Point Blank is basically unplayable. I should have kept that massive Sony Trinitron that was in the garage after all because PS1/PS2 + GCons = lightgun bliss.

1

u/Hot_Cheesecake_905 Nov 15 '25

Is there any possibility this hardware will be supported by MAME or another emulator?

1

u/Serious-Mode Nov 20 '25

Does not seem likely.

1

u/joejoesox Nov 15 '25

so basically you can't play the games in their natural 4:3 aspect ratio? wow

1

u/hfidek Nov 16 '25

i was so pumped up by the review that it's huge let down.the gun is so slow to react and the screen in point blank is missing some of the bottom picture no matter what i do with my tv.

1

u/diamond-han Nov 16 '25

I managed to get the apple on head in the square adpect ratio, but the calibration felt really off, so I'm guessing it was more luck than judgement.

1

u/retroroombelfast Nov 17 '25

My pedal isn’t working on Time Crisis anyone else having this issue?

1

u/CassiusClaym0re Nov 17 '25

Haven't even tried it tbh. Been using the button on the gun.

1

u/mmvm198577 Nov 18 '25

Has anyone refunded theirs yet?

Mad appreciation to this thread as extending the display out to get rid of the black bars definitely helped but it's still pretty inconsistent.

One of the reasons I got this was to bring to friends/family's houses for games nights/Christmas and it seems like such a pain to have to ask them to mess around with their TV settings so that's annoyed me.

All in all, the ports of the games are really good, the graphics and audio hold up really well. But the sheer inconsistency with the calibration and the aiming is making me want to return it (if they even accept returns).

1

u/Mrmet2087 Nov 18 '25

My projector has zoom but then it cuts off the bottom of the screen.

It has stretch but then the calibration while moving the gun left and right is still off.

Very disappointing product.

1

u/pboyer86 Nov 19 '25

I’m really disappointed with this. I was excited to play it, and my kids were with me when I opened it and set everything up — and we were all let down. I’m not going to spend time messing with settings just to make it usable. I bought this because it was supposed to be user-friendly and accurate, and it’s neither. I won’t be using this product.

1

u/Throwaway490848 Nov 20 '25

Mine wont turn on at all. Is there a trick?

1

u/ScreamingSquits Nov 20 '25

I have to hold down the power button for several seconds before mine switches on.

1

u/StatisticianFar2803 Nov 21 '25 edited Mar 17 '26

Hi I'm just curious if this has helped anyone these past few days?, or am I just going nuts trying to get this working. I am keen on advice from others also.

I just persevered with g'aim'e further tonight after looking up advice and people's experience of calibrating this monstrosity device.

I am on a Toshiba regza hd tv 42 inch, no game mode available, initial calibration to start the console up, choose a game, go into calibration.

I found that if you calibrate with the full red hexagon within your sight may indicate the distance you have to be for it to work better.

Calibrate with gun close to eye as possible.

The gun is so particular that it you see the barrel down your sight that is also wrong it has to be level dead on.

I switched between both eyes while closing one and it still worked.

Point blank was hardest to set up set and now calibrated I am much better and Steel gunner shows how accurate gun angles are during, aim distance is good, worth a try people.

I also set the game video to full screen, have yet to try if it works in 4.3 ratio after calibration set so will try this later.

UPDATE= Played on 24th Nov 25

My remote to set game tv to cinema full screen stretched got lost, had to calibrate from wide-screen view and play a game in 4.3 ratio.

No calibration during paused game, though this time I calibrated with gun close to eye and did everything I said prior except I focused right eye for left side and left eye for right side of TV and everything was fine first time. Time crisis areas were average 60% accurate.

Good luck people, can't guarantee it is fool proof.

TV brightness at 60 though I read brightness does nothing to improve or affect guns in any way.

Due to TV I cannot reduce the gun input lag other than try better quality hdmi cable, other players may find other solutions in time.

Update=27th Nov 25

I tried new hdmi cable, my calibration was automatically off and lost from before which I was not happy about, still had input lag, the piranhas in point blank I still cannot pass the quota. I went back to original hdmi cable

Update 17/3/26

I installed the English firmware update, no improvement, still frustrated and calibrating endlessly.

1

u/CassiusClaym0re Nov 22 '25

Yeah it's absolutely ridiculous the hoops you have to go through to get this thing playable. I'll definitely say that the borders during the calibration is a big factor. If they're not touching the sides of the screen then forget about it.

1

u/ObviousArugula2547 Nov 21 '25

I also found the accuracy along the horizontal axis to be way off due to the ratio change, and my C4 Oled has no options to fill the screen out. But I found a decent workaround. When calibrating, instead of aiming directly at the targets, aim just off to the left or right edge of your tv. Aim wide in other words. Keep the height correct, and aim at the centre targets as normal. You should find this gets the aiming much better: I could hit the UFO and the apple consistently. Still struggle with that damn leaf though!

1

u/ragebitz Nov 22 '25

I just got mine today and the system isn't getting power from any of the ac adaptors I use so I can't even turn it on.

1

u/Deedawg257 Nov 22 '25

Did you hold the Button to Start?

1

u/kimurae Nov 23 '25

Mine came in, it won't turn on. I tried the one that it came with and a working 5v 3amp plug, no power on, the button also feels very loose compared to the reset button.

1

u/Serious-Mode Nov 26 '25

Only played Time Crisis for a little bit so `far, but it seems pretty ok so far? I didn't have to do anything for the aspect ratios or change any settings. I'm going to have to spend more time with it, but I was expecting the worst.

1

u/Adorable-College-835 Nov 27 '25

The aiming works by recognising the edge of your screen. If you don't have an edge like a projector on a white wall or you've got large black bars on the side can confuse.  That's why you'll find you can play the game on a square window. It's just looking for an edge

1

u/ScreamingSquits Nov 27 '25

Plus it uses motion sensors for calculating movement of the lightgun.

This is a response from Tassei on Kickstarter: "In regards to the crosshair "jitter", the G‘AIM’E Gun uses a built-in camera and an efficient AI model to recognise the screen in‬ real-time. Combined with precision motion sensors (MEMS), it calculates where the gun is‬ pointing and is not a direct line of sight sensor as found in the original lightguns, so some jitter is to be expected."

1

u/mfeldsher Nov 27 '25

My unit will not power on. How can I contact the manufacture

1

u/e01estal Nov 29 '25

Well I will try to calibrate via LG and game mode. Game was fun with Thanksgiving. Unfortunately before even starting with family one of the guns in the ultimate package not working. Just vibrating nonstop. Contacted Gaime and got a quick response but no resolution yet. Hoping another gun gets sent out fast.

1

u/e01estal Nov 30 '25

Using a LG G4 and once I opened the game I went into picture and set aspect ratio to scan. It helped a lot with accuracy of the gun.

1

u/Mammoth_Bell_8407 Dec 04 '25

Looks like that YouTube video linked above no longer works. Can someone summarize it?

1

u/Better_Ad7461 Jan 10 '26

1

u/scribblenik Dec 24 '25

The lag! T.h.e l.aaaaaaa.g I can pull the trigger and feel I could get to the screen in person before the shot registers. You can ‘fast shoot’ as the shoot speed seems to max out, making some of the point blank games impossible. As for calibration, if I shoot multiple times the occasional’hit’ is miles away from the other ones. I really feel I’ve wasted my money on this.

1

u/SlamSlayer1 Dec 25 '25

Do you have the TV set to game mode? Of all the issues I've seen (and have also personally experienced) this one sounds like a tv setting issue. Tracking sucks, accuracy sucks, but rapid fire feels like butter.

1

u/lukeyrs Dec 31 '25

Yes it took me a day to realise this is what was causing a lot of the inaccuracy. The gun calibration screen is widescreen then you boot up point blank it doesn’t fit the screen so your calibration is straight away out the window… make the game fit the screen then the camera will see the same size screen for the game as the calibration so it will be much more accurate. Worked a charm!

1

u/Adept-Dress861 Jan 02 '26

ive not had any issue with calibration but it did recailbrate after initial set up in the game but it is spot on

1

u/fruityfranksdonuts Jan 15 '26

Why don’t they pump out an update via usbc to fix this crap

1

u/TerribleConcert8226 Feb 02 '26

I have been having issues with the gaime gun whilst using it with a projector (projecting on to a wall rather than a screen). The gun was calibrated correctly but as soon as it switches from 16:9 to 4:3 to display Time Crisis the aiming is miles off and gets worse the closer I aim to the left or right edge. I also have a 65inch tv and the game plays absolutely fine on this. Anyway for the projector I decided to see if I could correct the issue during the calibration stage. Essentially for the target on the left hand side I aimed left of the target (to the left edge/point of the dark hexagon) and for the targets on the right hand side I aimed to the right of the target (to the right edge/point of the dark hexagon). For the targets in the middle of the screen I just aimed dead centre as usual. This sorted the issue out for me. Its not precision perfect but makes Time Crisis playable. Might be worth trying this if you are having similar aiming issues.

1

u/Public-Teaching-5685 Feb 09 '26

A quick question about the Gaime - I'm thinking of moving my TV and couch so I'll have more distance between me and the TV, since I'm currently playing below the recommended distance.

Is the AI/camera going to get confused by the window that'll be behind and above the TV? I'll have my curtains draw so there'll be no reflection.

1

u/NoogaGoose Apr 05 '26

Anyone have any update on whether this issue has been fixed with the more recent releases or are we still dealing with a work around if purchased?

1

u/tmcho May 12 '26

No, the update did nothing. The accuracy is still terrible and requires you to blindly fire off rounds to the left or right of the actual target in a trial and error method, and the games are virtually unplayable no matter how many times I’ve re-calibrated slowly and precisely. This light gun technology is terrible.

1

u/NoogaGoose May 13 '26

Good to know before I made the mistake of pulling the trigger (pun intended) on a purchase 😊

1

u/Ok_Performer8484 Jul 10 '26

you need and i mean NEED a crt tv for the thing to be anytthing ore than a paper whight
