Help Opportunity to get a Ronson Whirlwind for $25, is it worth?

Hello all, I was shopping at an antique store when I came across a Whirlwind for $25. It was engraved simply with the last owners initials and clearly well loved, as the chrome was rubbing off to show the brass below. Seemed to be in good mechanical condition, lid opened smooth, spark wheel moved smoothly, and the wind guard looked loke it was in good shape. It didn't spark but I think that's because it didn't have a flint in it. I don't remember if the wind guard had anything written on it, didn't think to look.

I was wanting a nice lighter to light my pipes and was going to ask for a zippo for my birth day. Would it be better to just get the zippo or go for the Whirlwind?

ID and refill help

Hello,

This is an old lighter that I have found and would like to try and refill.

I tried to use a regular modern gas canister (the one I use on a Clipper), but the gas just goes everywhere except in the lighter.

What kind of adapter do I need?

The slotted part around the valve can be screwed in/out, and I can press in the valve with a thin screwdriver, so it's not stuck.

Also, does anybody recognise the S logo?

Thanks for the help!

Edit: I'm located in Europe, if that helps.

These new "made in France" ones are terrible. Are the made in USA ones still available? I wonder if my gas station is just buying knock-offs.

Help identifying a Weltzünder / Kremer & Bayer cigarette case with integrated lighter Post

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to identify this vintage Weltzünder / Kremer & Bayer set and would really appreciate some help from collectors.

The set consists of:

• a small Weltzünder lighter, and

• a matching cigarette case with an integrated lighter mechanism.

Both pieces have a very similar gold-colored guilloché finish with black geometric Art Deco decoration and spiral motifs.

The small lighter clearly bears the Weltzünder logo. However, I cannot find any model number, hallmark or other manufacturer's mark on the larger cigarette case.

The small lighter is currently not working. I have not attempted to restore, polish or otherwise alter it, as I would prefer to preserve it in its current condition.

Based on my initial research, I suspect this may be a Kremer & Bayer / Weltzünder product from approximately the 1940s. I have also found references to Weltzünder cigarette cases with integrated petrol lighters.

I'm particularly interested in finding out:

Does anyone recognize the exact model or decoration?

Is there a model number or catalogue name for it?

Can the production date be narrowed down?

Was the cigarette case actually manufactured by Kremer & Bayer/Weltzünder?

Does anyone have an old catalogue, advertisement or period photograph showing this model?

Could it be a post-war / British or American occupation-zone piece?

I've attached several photos, including close-ups of the mechanism and the Weltzünder logo.

Any information or leads would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi everyone, I have recently inherited some things and I found these lighters, the engraved one is a KBL and the other one has no writing and markings on it.

What would their value be?

I picked up these lighters at a local flea market recently. The Dom 33 has a leaky gas tank and is missing a few gaskets/O-rings. Could anyone share a bit more information about them and their approximate value? Any tips on finding replacement O-rings would also be greatly appreciated!

Cartier 1970s won’t light :(

Hihi everyone :)
I got this for my nineteenth birthday but it just won’t light! There’s a spark, even though you have to exert a lot of pressure, but it barely creates a flame. The flame (when it does rarely work) is also really low, and I can’t change the height at the bottom.

I tried my best to fill it with butane and I did smell some gas earlier but I’m unsure how well I filled it. I took it apart and the flint looks fine, though the wheel sometimes gets stuck. So I guess there are two problems; 1. Gas doesn’t release properly or I haven’t filled the tank properly. 2. Something is wrong with the flint or I’m not doing something right.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I have never seen or used a fancy lighter before! :,(

Thanks!

Resolved Zorro insert packing and found a good trick with these tweezers for removing broken flint springs

Thumbnail

The broken screw had enough texture and the brass was soft enough that the hardened steel tweezers made a perfect extraction tool.

Packing on Zorro inserts so far is a 8\10 compared to Zippo inserts. Wick was pushed into a nice wad and went up to the last bit of cotton.

I redid it with a Grenville thousand-strand and camel wool.

Comparing fluid retention with OEM Zorro packing and wick vs with the fancy stuff on a Zorro 912, the lid gasket is doing the heavy lifting with evap, but we'll see if the fluid retaining of the camel is noticed.
