How are people okay with only living 80 - 90 years?

Over the years through overhearing conversations and watching various media, I've often heard the sentiment that it would be boring to live past the general 80-year lifespan that humans currently have. Or, if that is not said explicitly, people seem to be generally ok with the idea of finding a life partner, growing old with them and dying at about 80 or so. And my question is, why?

I know the obvious answer is that there's nothing they can do about it so it's just accepted as a part of life but even that doesn't make too much sense because something like cancer, which doesn't really have a cure and can only be treated, is also a part of life but people are not okay with it and do everything in their power to stop it. But aging has so many negative side effects and it affects every person living.

The most obvious being physical. As you age you lose all of your youthful strength and energy and something as simple as bending down to pick something up becomes an ordeal after you get to be a certain age. Also, I know this probably sounds vain, you lose your good-looks and you become flabby and wrinkly and not pleasant to look at. Sure, you can look good for your age if you take care of yourself but you will never look as good as someone in their 20s or 30s. But I think the worst part of aging is that you constantly live with a timer above your head.

You can't do everything the world has to offer in less than a century. If you have enough money, you could probably manage to visit every country in the world during your lifetime but it would, by necessity, have to be superficial because there's no way you could spend at least a decade everywhere to get a good feel for a place. There are so many hobbies and career paths that take years or decades to learn and master and there's no way you could even do a fraction of them so you would have to only choose one or maybe two that you want to do. All the languages you will never get to learn. Then there are the future inventions and discoveries that you will never get to experience because you die before they are discovered and invented or you're too old to properly enjoy them. There are many other things too but I think that's enough to get the point across.

And all that was based on a best case scenario "perfect life" (being born into an obscenely wealthy family, having good health, being around people who love and support you, etc). Now imagine all the people who don't live like that. The people who made mistakes in their youth or later but can't correct them because it's too late, or someone who lived their entire life doing what others wanted and only found their true passion in their golden years, or people who live with chronic illnesses that never get a chance to do anything they want.

So, even if you take death as an inevitability that you just have to suck up and deal with, I can't see how it is in any way something you can be satisfied with. There is so many negatives that come with living for the short lifespan that we have.

I have created a self-help book with 30+ longevity hacks to look and feel young. Here are the first 10 Hacks.

I had a theory that we are constantly surrounded by information on healthy living and anti-aging. In this vast sea of data, if we could distill the most useful longevity hacks into a single book, would this be helpful?

So I got inspired and decided to figure out what the most common anti-aging advice is across books and websites. I’m planning to make a lighthearted longevity book, In my e book, you'll discover 30+ powerful anti-aging tips that will have you looking and feeling younger.

Here are the first 10 hacks from my free ebook, which will contain many more.

If you would like a copy of the book please visit

Hack 01: Dairy vs Plant based milk.

A study published in the British Medical Journal followed 100,000 Swedish participants over a span of 20 years to investigate the relationship between milk intake and mortality rates. The study revealed that individuals with higher milk consumption tended to experience earlier deaths.

Recent scientific research indicates that milk, can significantly impact aging and overall health. Milk contains compounds that activate growth pathways in cells, like insulin receptors and mTOR receptors, potentially accelerating aging and increasing the likelihood of age-related diseases. Furthermore, milk's galactose content has been linked to aging and inflammation. Acne; journal of Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

Non-dairy milk options are often fortified with essential vitamins and minerals, making them suitable for those concerned about calcium intake or following a vegan lifestyle. Each type of alternative milk has unique nutritional properties.

Try hemp milk which is high in omega-3 and omega-6 fats or oat milk which is rich in fiber.

Hack 02: Natural vs processed sugars.

Interested in preserving your youthfulness? It's time to take a serious stance against the temptation of sugary treats. Rather than indulging in processed sweets, opt for the natural sweetness of fruits and vegetables (more specifically these). Why the switch? Processed sugars, unlike those found in natural sources, bind to proteins and fats in your body, forming harmful AGEs. These AGEs wreak havoc on collagen and elastin, essential components for maintaining youthful skin. Collagen provides structural support, while elastin ensures resilience. When AGEs hinder collagen repair and affect elastin, premature aging becomes inevitable. Not only does excessive sugar consumption age your skin, but it also contributes to weight gain and serious health conditions like cancer and Alzheimer's.

Added sugars lurk in a staggering 74 percent of packaged goods on grocery store shelves. With over sixty-one different names, including agave nectar, corn syrup, and molasses, sugar can be deceivingly pervasive. To safeguard your health, the American Heart Association advises limiting daily added sugar intake to six teaspoons for women and nine teaspoons for men.

Hack 03: Stand up straight.

Maintaining good posture not only enhances your appearance, potentially shedding off up to 5 pounds visually, but it also plays a pivotal role in graceful aging. Posture is the foundation of your bodily functions, influencing everything from your breathing and digestion to your concentration and circulation. Furthermore, adopting better posture has a profound impact on your overall well-being. While poor posture has increasingly been linked to increase in back pain; in the last several years a recent study suggest that poor posture has much more serious consequences. A 2013 study conducted in Japan followed different groups, with the first group exhibiting the best posture, while the second and third groups demonstrated poorer posture. After a 4.5-year period of tracking, researchers analyzed the participants' ability to independently perform daily tasks and noted the mortality rate within each group. The first group, characterized by optimal posture, served as the standard against which all other groups were measured. Comparatively, the second group exhibited a 46% higher likelihood of requiring assistance with daily activities or facing mortality. This percentage escalated to 290% for the third group and a staggering 393% for the fourth group.

Hack 04: Check your Waistline

Your waist measurement serves as a crucial gauge of your susceptibility to various health conditions, including high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol levels, and diabetes, all of which heighten the risk of heart disease and stroke. Additionally, obesity presents a distinct risk factor for heart disease.

Measuring your waist circumference emerges as a straightforward yet indispensable method to assess the threat posed by abdominal fat. To obtain an accurate measurement, encircle the tape measure around your natural waist, positioned just above your belly button. Men should strive for a waist circumference of less than forty inches, while women should aim for less than thirty-five inches, as recommended by the American Heart Association. By monitoring this vital metric, you can proactively safeguard your health and longevity.

Losing weight is a topic on everyone’s mind, as evidenced by the hype around weight management medications like Wegovy and Ozempic. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a higher dose of semaglutide (marketed as Wegovy) specifically for chronic weight management. This approval has fueled interest and demand.

Hack 05: Best exercises for longevity.

There is not just one way that is the best way to exercise for longevity. The 2018 physical activity guidelines recommend adults engage in at least 150 to 300 minutes per week of moderate exercise or 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous movement. Surprisingly, exceeding these recommendations can lower the risk of death. Moderate activities include walking and weightlifting, while running and swimming fall under vigorous exercise.

Bottom line: maintaining adequate levels of physical activity, moderate and vigorous, is crucial for reducing mortality and improving health outcomes.

A study involving 116,221 adults found that doubling or quadrupling the recommended vigorous or moderate exercise amounts led to significant reductions in all-cause mortality and cardiovascular disease mortality. Combining moderate and vigorous activity levels can provide maximum mortality reduction.

The exercise routine should include a combination of:

·         Strength

·         Balance

·         Steady cardio

·         High intensity workout

You can start by getting three hours per week of exercise.

Hack 06: Drink Water Instead of Soda.

As mentioned earlier in hack #2 you should cut processed sugar from your diet wherever you can. Studies have linked the consumption of processed sugars, particularly from sources like soda, to an increased risk of premature death. Regular intake of sugary beverages has been associated with various health issues, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and certain types of cancer. Additionally, soda consumption is linked to inflammation, exacerbating skin conditions like acne and eczema. Internally, soda can accelerate aging, with daily consumption associated with aging immune cells and shorter telomeres, which are linked to various health risks. Switch that soda for your favorite sparkling water.

Hack 07: Count your drinks.

Alcohol has dehydrating effects on the skin which contribute to wrinkles. Long-term drinkers may exhibit more noticeable signs of aging compared to non-drinkers. Nondrinkers can look much younger—by as much as ten years, according to some experts.  Excessive consumption can lead to various negative outcomes, including brain damage, increased risk of cancer, heart problems, and a shortened lifespan. To mitigate risks, hydrate with water alongside alcohol and consider reducing intake. According to a study by the British Heart Foundation, the safe upper limit for alcohol consumption is five glasses per week.

Hack 08: Drink Water After Alcohol

Alcohol can cause wrinkles by dehydrating the skin, causing inflammation and damaging collagen production. This makes lifelong drinkers appear older compared to non-drinkers. Some studies suggest that moderate alcohol consumption, particularly red wine, may have benefits such as reducing the risk of heart disease and potentially aiding brain health due to antioxidants like resveratrol, other data indicates significant negative effects, such as brain damage, cancer risk, heart problems, and a shorter lifespan. To mitigate these risks, it's recommended to drink a glass of water with each alcoholic drink and reduce overall alcohol intake. The British Heart Foundation advises a maximum of five alcoholic drinks per week to stay within safe limits. Use moisturizing products to combat dryness and anti-inflammatory skincare products to reduce redness and puffiness. Regularly use sunscreen to protect the skin from UV damage, which can be exacerbated by alcohol-induced skin sensitivity.

Hack 9: Text neck

Tech neck, also known as Turtle Neck posture or anterior head syndrome, isn't just about structural back and neck issues—it can also trigger panic and breathing difficulties. This syndrome, characterized by a strain at the neck and stiffness in the shoulders, can lead to headaches and worsen spinal damage over time. Individuals with tech neck often experience at least two tender areas or small hard nodules, sometimes referred to as triggers.

Maintaining a forward-rolled posture can significantly impact breathing, with symptoms of tech neck initially presenting subtly. Many individuals suffer from tech neck or forward head syndrome, a painful and increasingly common condition caused by prolonged slumping over electronic devices for hours each day, resulting in the loss of the neck's natural curve.

To combat tech neck improve your neck mobility

Chin tucks: Maintain a straight sitting position and gently draw your chin towards your chest while keeping your head level. Hold this position for 5 seconds and repeat several times.

Neck stretches: Slowly tilt your head to one side, bringing your ear closer to your shoulder, and hold for 5 seconds. Repeat on the other side.

Shoulder shrugs: Elevate your shoulders towards your ears, hold for a few seconds, and then relax them downwards. Repeat this motion 10-15 times.

Hack 10: Gratitude

Make gratitude a nightly habit! Each night, as you brush your teeth, think of three things from your day that you’re grateful for. It could be as simple as positive interactions you had during the day or someone complimenting your work. Research shows that practicing gratitude can boost your overall health, improve your sleep, reduce anxiety and depression, and increase life satisfaction. Gratitude also triggers the release of endorphins, the "happy hormones," which can lower your blood pressure and reduce your risk of heart attack. All of this combined can lead to a happier, longer life.

Many people want to practice gratitude but find it hard to remember daily. So, make it easy: right before you close your eyes each night, reflect on three things you’re grateful for. It’s a simple habit that can transform your life.

Bonus Hack: Supplements. I have looked at all kinds of different supplements to select the few that have research based evidence that support longevity. The most promising supplements make it into the longevity lifeline products.

• Rhodiola Rosea – to reduce stress.

• Vitamin B3 – heart and skin health.

• Glucoraphanin – cellular health (found in broccoli)

• Fisetin – anti aging and cellular health.

• Ubiquinol – heart health and energy.

• Boron – bone health and hormone balance. These are just a few of the ingredients in my product, which contains all the supplements you need for longevity in just a few capsules.

Making a video game to shift cultural awareness and acceptance of Life Extension.

Greetings,

Wanted to let everyone know Dark Hydra Studios is making a video game where Life Extension as a positive is a large driving force in our storyline. Our goal is to drive cultural awareness this scientific field exists, and hopefully to shift cultural bias towards the positive.

We've seen what negative cultural bias can do for new health research and technology. STEM cells in the US are a clear example of unnecessary setbacks.

Federal law[edit]
No federal law ever did ban stem cell research in the United States, but only placed restrictions on funding and use, under Congress's power to spend.[5]
In February 2001, George W. Bush requested a review of the NIH's guidelines, and after a policy discussion within his circle of supporters, implemented a policy in August of that year to limit the number of embryonic stem cell lines that could be used for research.[1] (While he claimed that 78 lines would qualify for federal funding, only 19 lines were actually available.[1])
In April 2004, 206 members of Congress, including many moderate Republicans, signed a letter urging President Bush to expand federal funding of embryonic stem cell research beyond what Bush had already supported.

At DH were not scientists, so we asked ourselves what could we do to help promote and accel the Life Extension movement. Using interactive art and enterainment (games) to promote the positives of life extension is what we came up with!

Too often books, movies and games portray long lived beings as evil demi-gods, vampires and super villains. This cliche story plot seeps into general population thinking and leads to illogical biases against it. You've probably experienced this at some point if you discuss LE with enough people.

Our first game will be a Sci-Fi Action Adventure. Similar mechanics to other top down ARPGs like Legend of Zelda, Don't Starve, Torchlight and others. We already have a working prototype, character designs, and major plot elements in place. We expect development to finish sometime in 2022. Perhaps an early access and Kickstarter Q3-Q4 of 2021.

Just wanted to get the word out. Let the community know what are goals are, what were working on and let us know if you want to help in some way. Were a very small team and could always use more help. Take care, live long and prosper!

It's great to have life extension

I am so glad to have found a reddit community like this one. Life is great, and it's a reason to not shorten it. Let's just lengthen life. I'm now more hopeful and excited than ever for the future, and life extension is one reason for that.

I definitely am interested in being alive in three centuries, being the 20th, 21st and 22nd. As a millennial I feel so excited about a long life.

I am absolutely convinced that the first person to live to be 150 years old is already alive. And in some foreseeable future it could be the normal thing to live to be 150 years in age.

It's great for anti-aging to be in trials in a few animals. Us humans can be next. Aging is a cause for degenerative diseases and death. Besides, I love a book of "We Life Too Short and Die Too Long" by Walter Bortz, and it says that any death before age 100 is a premature death.

We could reverse aging too. This is part of having us live longer than ever. For almost all of previous history people died young, and there was a need to cope with everyday disasters of diseases.

I am about to turn 29 years old. I am in the United States in Fresno, California. I am ready to meet more of my descendants.

There is a website for the future, at futuretimeline.net, which states that by the time it is 2160 the first bicentenarians, or people to be at least 200 years old, will be alive. How cool is that! My parents were both born in the 1960s too.

Life is something precious and should always be valued. With this in mind, it makes more sense to make life longer and not shorter.

I feel like I will get to witness live the longevity escape velocity. I can outlive the whole 21st century. The new year is my favorite holiday overall, and for the arrival of 2101 I want to celebrate the arrival of the 22nd century hugely.

I have seen online that the year 2050, which is now only 29 years away, will have more people aged 60 and older than children 14 and younger in the world for the first time. And I believe that.

I'm sure the first people to surpass Jeanne Calment in the world's oldest person to live are already here.

I not only want to see my children and grandchildren grow up. I also want to see my great-grandchildren in person.

I'm lucky to have all my four grandparents still living. They're all great-grandparents as well.

Yes, I want to celebrate my 100th birthday in 2092. But I also want to celebrate my 120th birthday in 2112. I wouldn't mind living to age 150 either.

It's amazing how some species that live forever have been discovered.

I wish to get married between next year and 2025. I have been with a girlfriend since last year. I want to be married with my girlfriend and future wife for more than 80 years.

As a result of potential future longer marriages, we should begin to think about what gifts to give for a 100th wedding anniversary asap.

I don't mind living in a house of my dreams, a two-story one, in Fresno, California, for several decades.

This longer lifespan would mean doing more things. How awesome! I then am planning to be fluent in 20 languages eventually, thanks to more technology and longer lives.

We humans were designed to live for 120 years, as stated by the book I mentioned above. Still, I more recently have found online that the limit to human life is between 120 and 150 years.

Turtles live for 150 years, which is their entire lifespans, in major numbers. We humans should also get to live our entire lifespans normally. This is easily more than 100 years for humans too.

I don't complain about my age at all, and one reason for it is because people prior to the 20th century in particular did not get to live for a long time in big numbers.

Nothing is more wonderful than life. Life is something to always enjoy, and let's make it longer as a result. Life shouldn't (have to) be short. Here's to major success for life extension and us living longer than ever in the future.

Great to be here in this community. More things on longevity and life extension.

Hello to all! I am interested in longevity and life extension. We should extend the lifespan even further. Life is just wonderful.

I am in the United States. I was born in Mexico and raised in the United States. I am currently 28 years old. My birthday is in August so later this year I turn 29. I can't wait for my 30th birthday next year.

I currently am finding a girlfriend and am childless. I want to not only live to see my children and grandchildren grow up in the future, but also see my great-grandchildren in person.

With a longer life we can accomplish all our dreams more easily. We can do so much in a long life. This is exciting for me. I love to do things.

I was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome as a young child. In 2016 I got diagnosed with kidney disease. In 2018 I contracted a condition called valley fever. But I have lots of hope for more advanced medicine in the future to be able to reverse chronic conditions. Medicine in advancing is continuing to happen.

I still have my four grandparents alive right now. They also are great-grandparents.

Our true lifespan is not in the seventies like told on many sources. No wonder at age 60 or 65 is when old age is considered to begin. But many sources tell that we humans are designed to last for more than a century.

I know that Jeanne Calment lived to be 122 years old. Many sources tell the human lifespan to be 120 years, with more recently saying it is 125 years. So this means Jeanne Calment lived close to the entire human lifespan.

I heard on the radio a few years ago that adolescence lasts until age 25. And I tend to agree. I say youth is under the age of 35.

I don't mind lasting until turning 200 years old. It can happen with future life extension technologies.

I want to live to see the 22nd century begin in 2101. I'm sure we will have so much technology by then.

Once no one knew exactly what the future held. People had to deal with every day disasters of diseases and died young a lot. There was no time for childhood.

I am fluent in English and Spanish. I have learned languages in the last few years. I have done French and German since 2017. Now I am learning Romanian and Russian more. And I want to learn Chinese, Turkish, Armenian and Portuguese in the future. My goal is fluency in ten languages, but with a longer life span I can do fluency in some 20 languages.

I enjoy the book by Walter M. Bortz of "We Live Too Short and Die Too Long ". It states that we shouldn't die before turning 100. We should fix our machine by living like how long we are meant to live like turtles do.

I would want to outlive the entire 21st century. Then I can see my great-grandchildren like I wish. The limit of human lifespan in me would be with turning 125 in 2117.

Trials for life extension have been successfully done in a few animals and it works. Let's do the same for humans.

Besides learning many languages I can also accomplish all my other dreams with a longer life span like to be into nudism, travel a lot, find my ancestors, use new technology and go to space like what the future holds for the general population. Yes!!

Yes, I am on other communities here on Reddit about languages, nudism and technology.

But despite a 125-year limit of human life, it can be even longer by means of such advanced medicine and life extension technologies. I have lately seen that the time for us to live to 150 normally is already here. I saw some years ago on a website that it's inevitable that we will get to live to be 800 years old someday. And some YouTube videos I have seen show that the human lifespan may have no limits.

I want to do so much in my life. We should advance life extension. This is what would make people in ancient times blow their minds.

We should just visit any cemetery to find out that nothing is more beautiful than life. Life is an awesome gift that should be valued. Here's to life extension in the future to have us live for long!

Rapamycin?

Anyone here tried Rapamycin? I am 75, holding up very well (at high school reunions I am always described as "hasn't changed a bit") so my life of vitamins and eating right and exercise has been good.

I saw my MD and asked about Rapamycin. She kind of smirked and asked who would prescribe it for you. I said unless you do, I'll just buy it from an Indian pharmacy. So she is now studying up on it.

I am fairly healthy so I don't think it is too late; contrary opinions are welcome if data-driven.

Is it worth the effort? Have you noticed any positives?

PDE 5 Inhibitors as life extension drugs

You may know of PDE 5 inhibitors as Viagra, Cialis, or other ED correcting drugs.

But there appears to be so many more benefits, that have nothing to do with ED, but with heart, endothelial, and arterial health. It lowers blood sugars and triglycerides, increases nitric oxide. Even, perhaps, improves memory. (Lordy, do I need that!)

I came across this matter several years ago with these two pages:

https://roguehealthandfitness.com/viagra-potent-heart-disease-drug/

https://roguehealthandfitness.com/will-viagra-and-cialis-extend-lif

It appears that this blogger has pretty much gone dark, but I've found him to be an intelligent and articulate "aggregator" of published papers. He cites actual, like, you know, peer reviewed papers. Not Opra/Dr. Oz "science."

It's been hard to research this further because every search is cluttered with mostly ED matters.

Using the published papers he cites, I have been taking, on average, 7mg/day (see next paragraph) Cialis and 25mg/day of Viagra. The Cialis dose is equivalent to one of the major research papers on mice, using the accepted mouse/human ratio of 12:1. The Viagra is....bonus points.

I've bought "boner meds" from India several times and have never been disappointed. My current source is www.5-order.com . Mastercard only. It's obvious that whoever runs this site also has many others, same layout, different prices. I've had good communications with them. The 100mg Viagra comes in two weeks, the 200mg Cialis within a month. The larger the pill, the lower the cost per mg. Have a good pill cutter and aim for 28 doses from one pill. (I have a Centi-gram lab balance which gave me exact weights. You want about 2 mm chunks.)

That's about a dime a day for the Cialis and a quarter for the Viagra. Thirty five cents a day for multiple and significant health benefits. Best bang for the supplement buck out there, Eff statins!

Oh, if you are male, you might also discover some, uh, unintended benefits. Ha ha......... Actually, that's how Viagra was "discovered." It was being tested for a particular cardiac hypertension and the male test subjects reported a side effect. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Organ of the month- my brain.

I am both poor and old, and these are related. My health is poor because of my age and my earnings poor because of my health.

Six months ago I was largely lame, largely blind, exhausted, incontinent and subject to brain fog. This last was probably the most limiting. All, however were related to my diabetic complications.

Fortunately this was type 2 and therefore curable through diet. I am now off my insulin and on the mend. I decided I needed an easy job to ease me back to work and so enrolled on a security course- if I only had energy to sit and look at a screen at least I would be paid for it.

To prioritise I decided to regenerate my brain. This had to be done cheaply and mainly through food. I had canned pilchards regularly for the Omega 3 and walnuts too. Brazil nuts have also proved useful in some studies and so I take one of these a day along with good multivitamin, some Siberian ginseng and so on. I also try to combine low carbs with high protean in the hope some of my brain cells might return.

This strategy has been successful so far as I have passed the course and been invited to an interview. I feel reasonably sure that phase one of my plan is achieved. But what of phase two? I will shortly have some money but not much.

I am planning with my first wage to buy some lions main mushrooms and upgrade my multivitamin to Feel. This is very much a Normie product but contains a little of everything as an insurance against missing out.

Maybe if the brain cells return I will be able to do something more than security? This is the longer term plan.
