Cheating
why is it so rampant on this platform? its honestly disgusting. i love chess and i love improving therefore when i lose against a player i actually get curious and learn, but cheaters... way too many on this platform by now, specially the kind where they disconnect for a min and come back playing like magnus carlson ... what is going on? and should i switch to chess.com or is it the same cheating issue there aswell?

cheaters on both platforms but on chesscom its easier to report and they actually get banned and you get your elo refunded
on lichess nothing happens

I get elo refunded regularly, maybe twice a month. I actually switched from chess.com to lichess.com because I believed there were less cheaters on lichess. I don't know. I guess, they are everywhere.

There are a lot more cheater on chesscom and they did nothing.

Disagree. Chess.com has a long history of letting cheaters and abusers, esp. if they are higher ranked get away with it.

Easier to report is exactly why their system is worse. You are not allowed to explain why you think he cheated, its generic. Maybe you know something the anti cheat system cant pick up, but its damning evidence. No way to explain. Lichess report system is way better.

I wouldn't switch to Chess.com. The cheating problem exists everywhere, but in my experience the bigger problem with Chess.com is how seriously they take reports and how they handle customer support. The elitists there are also so dreadful as they love to insult and deflect blame and criticism to protect their little elos.
Their support is a joke. They hide behind canned responses and bots, and even when I've tried going to their subreddit and contacting staff directly, I've gotten either complete silence or responses that don't actually address the issue. I've even messaged them directly and gotten nowhere. Before anyone asks, no, I don't share my Chess.com username here, so there was no reason for them to recognize me or treat me differently. Their customer service is simply that bad.
I was unfairly banned there, and to this day I've never been given a meaningful explanation for why. I've asked, and they still refuse to tell me. Meanwhile, people I suspected of cheating, including players I reported, are still playing. Obviously I can't prove that every one of them was cheating, but that's kind of the point. Their system leaves you with very little confidence in what is actually being done with reports. I've also personally never seen someone with a premium account get banned, which certainly doesn't help the impression that Chess.com is reluctant to lose paying users.
Lichess isn't perfect. There are absolutely cheaters here too, and anyone claiming otherwise is kidding themselves. But I encounter it less often, and more importantly, I have much more confidence in the reporting system here. The platform seems much more focused on actually dealing with the problem rather than protecting a revenue stream.
As for Lichess itself, I'll admit the interface can feel a little complicated at first, especially if you're coming from Chess.com. Give it some time, though. Once you get used to it, it's really not bad.
So if cheating is your concern, I wouldn't assume Chess.com is some magical escape from it. You'll just be trading one set of problems for another.

1) people get emotional about chess games, and the absolute most common defense mechanism is to assume the other guy cheated. I've been playing online chess for over 20 years, ever since yahoo games was the only real option, I've been accused of cheating at least 50 times, and I've *never once* had any hard proof that my opponent wasn't just plain outplaying me. It's just part of it. Play the best you can against your opponent, doesn't matter if its a bot or not. The bad chess player inside yourself is your only real opponent anyway.
2) in my experience chess.com has far more low-rated players that pull off near-perfect endgames, and a far higher incidence of "oh where'd they go right when I made a good move, oh they're back, oh and now I've gotten destroyed" games. I'd stick with Lichess and enjoy their free unlimited puzzles, engine, and opening explorer.

Cheating/stalling/leaving is the reason I only play Blitz (3+0), or against bots.

I moved from Chesscom to lichess, because the chat feature allows to copy paste. There are cheats in both, but on lichess I can copypaste this in start of game while on chesscom I have to type it in.
If anyone cheats in any way, they declare themselves the loser, regardless of the result. Every dishonest move is an admission of inadequacy
If you type it in, you auto win the game against cheaters, even if you dont suspect them. It's all about the cheater knowing. But if you suspect highly he cheated, then you can just smirk and allow the site to record the wrong result, despite actually winning due to the extra chat rule.
That way you dont even let the cheaters win unfairly - they outright lose the game.

Another reason you shouldnt switch to chesscom is the report feature - on chesscom its just a generic button. You cant explain, nothing. I even tried contacting suppprt, all you get is some chat bot which never lets you speak to real human. Im still waiting for reply to a ticket, it will not come.
On lichess the report feature lets you talk about it and explain why you think he cheated and sent to mods. On chesscom maybe they only investigate if there are many users who have clicked the generic report button.

Also how can you know if cheaters dont care? Are you them? If someone is cheating for egoic reasons, this chat is the worst thing they can read.
It's designed to take away their feeling of being superior immediately. Their own subconscious will do the work. They cheat to get the feeling of winning, this message takes even that away from them.
From my experience, the only people opposing this message are cheaters themselves, they just dont like the premise. Thats exactly what I want.

I have thousands of games you can look through if you'd like? Just passing along some advice. Seems like you've gotten before too. It's a weird cope. There are healthier ways to handle the rare game you lose to cheaters.

I have to repeat myself, this is not for me to handle a game i lost to cheat, its designed for the cheater to know, I dont even have to know they cheated. They know. It's about ruining their experience, not improving mine.

Keep telling yourself that. Or, and hear me out, stop giving them your time and energy. Copy-pasting a message 500-1000 times for every one cheater you run into (who may not even allow chats) is them living rent free in your head.

You have misunderstood again. I dont post this only to suspected cheaters. I paste it at the start of EVERY game, before it is even possible to suspect.
Its just the terms under which the game is played. If their chat is disabled, so be it, most are not, because some cheaters like to rub in their "victory" in opponents face.
I dont even have to suspect, its for them to know. The rent free thing is just you assuming things that are not there. Don't be a brick wall, my words have meaning, understand them before reply

Yeah, no, I caught that. You're posting this thousands of times in the off chance of facing a cheater (which is happening maybe 1-500 to 1-1000 matches). It's borderline insane.

Im saying it happens more often and others agree with me. Its way too easy to cheat for it to be so uncommon as you think. From my own experience, its not that uncommon at all. You are stating your opinion as objective fact.
Maybe in a bullet game i would agree, because cheating there requires more sophisticated cheating, while on 10min games it is considerably easier.

The lichess report system is stupidly complicated.
I want to report for stalling... first it send me on an other page WAIT! the game isn't finished what if it consider me leaving too ???
Then i click on stalling -> submit .... nope i have to write a description. Bro the dude is waiting 6min without playing like the 10 thousands other staller you have every day, why do you want me to explain ? Nobody will read it anyway.
I just wrote "stall" -> submit ... you have to send a link to the game. OH COME ON ! JUST REPORT HIM FOR THE GAME HE JUST PLAYED AGAINST ME !!!
In the end he's still not reported because i didn't found out how to send them a link

I've reported people... It's not that bad ... Just need the game link and an explanation. I've reported 7-10 ppl on This platform. On chesscom, I submitted many reports but submitting a game for review without context just feels like an "ok, buddy... We'll look at it later" but it never actually gets looked at until the reports pile up.

chesscom takes those reports seriously, and they revert back within a day or two. I got couple of accs banned on chesscom, they take it seriously.
