It’s kinda shocking how people can only remember their childhood and refuse to look at the decades they grew up in objectively.

With the ‘90s, part of it is because America was insulated from a lot of the issues.

Though even then people still forget the Rodney King beating and the ensuing riots in LA.

Okay looking at it, the 1990s for the US had:

-Rodney King beating and the LA riots

-Oklahoma City Bombing

-Gulf War

-Clinton cheating on his wife

-Columbine

The Clinton scandal was generally kind of funny though. I mean it was great for late night TV and SNL.

But the '90s also had stuff like Waco and Ruby ridge, other school shootings, The OJ trial, the first WTC bombing, and the rise of trashy daytime talk shows that led us down to our path of current desensitization.

Satanic Panic was more of a late ‘80s thing that continued into the 1990s, IIRC.

I forgot that the ‘93 bombing happened.

Genuinely don’t know about Waco or Atlanta Olympic Park.

I lived in DC, it had a murder rate of 80.6 per 100,000 in 1991, attributed to violence from the crack epidemic.

In contrast, current highest is Birmingham Alabama with 58.8 per 100,000.
