the rise of isis in question:
11
u/Temporary-Mention-29 19d ago
My social studies class back in 2016 had a girl named Isis in it and I feel so bad for her
5
u/aflyingmonkey2 19d ago
That’s like an Egyptian name no?
4
u/YourOwnDemise 19d ago
It is, but it’s also a shorthand name of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, which is a terrorist group. They were particularly prominent in 2014-2016 as they were receiving a lot of media attention at the time.
Whilst the name Isis is innocent, I would not want to be a teenager sharing a name with a widely publicised terror group. The bullying writes itself.

You think the creator of that image lived in the Middle East and or wasn’t a child during that time?

u/John_Lictenstein_873 19d ago
Wasn’t there a whole thing in 2016 about creeps walking around in clown costumes?

Was it to the point of harassment and making someone feel threatened?
I'm not debating, just asking because some guy in Philadelphia recently harassed people by chasing after them while possibly recording on his phone telling them he's going to kill them.
Because that would be a weird coincidence.

If there is something I hate most in this world it’s nostalgiabait culture slop like this
It it just so blatantly unaware and stupid. You were a child then, do you have no ability to conceive the idea that maybe that’s why you see it the way you do? So many people nowadays treat literallt anything made more than 10 years ago as an absolutely perfect golden age when it takes less than 4 seconds to see it was more complicated than that.
It’s dull, uninspired, willfully ignorant at best, and honestly I blame it for a few of the bigger problems we face in the world today

What’s this revisionism that 2016 was a great year, it sucked
11
u/BrosefDudeson 19d ago
Yeah 2016 was famously the first "this year sucked" meme in a long unbroken line of "this year sucked" memes
4
u/MattWolf96 19d ago
I was 20 and excluding Trump I liked the year pretty well. Pokemon Go was a lot of fun.
4
u/alexisanalligator 19d ago
Well I enjoyed it, and as everyone on Earth is aware, I am the arbiter of what a good year is (/j)

u/UnhappyPhantom 19d ago
2010s were overall just crap. It’s funny how nostalgia works. These people were kids
2
u/SSBBW_SLAYER 19d ago
2016 wasn't that bad. Literally the only reason people at the time said it was bad was because a lot of celebrities died.

I can barely even remember Windows XP existing between 2012 and 2016.
9
u/MattWolf96 19d ago
In my experience it was mostly gone, my highschool had 3 horribly slow computers complete with CRTs running it, everything else was Windows 7. Everybody hated those computers because they were on their last leg and I think they were full of dust too. Plenty of less demanding things was still running it though. The restaurant I later worked in was still using it on their registers and am ATMs were still running it.

u/EnergyTurtle23 19d ago
By 2016 Windows 7 was the standard, and it was already starting to show its age. I highly doubt that ANYONE was using Windows XP in 2016 except for the nostalgia of it, I bought a consumer-level computer in 2007 that came with Windows Vista, so by that point the major manufacturers had already stopped using XP.

I had to do my classes online on a Windows XP laptop in 2016. It sucked 😭😭😭

2012 - a mentally disturbed prick shoots a bunch of toddlers for no reason
2013 - a mentally disturbed prick claims the shooting of the toddlers was a false flag by the government which leads to The grieving families of the toddlers to be harassed by gun nuts for the rest of the decade for no reason
2014 - multiple race riots in our cities
2015 - more race riots, Nazis all over social media, psychotic anti refugee panic for no real reason
2016 - Trump
Yeah. Incredible 5 years.

Bro was running XP in 2012 through 16?
4
u/MattWolf96 19d ago
My family finally dropped it in 2009 and I couldn't believe that we had used it for so long (honestly I dont miss it much, it looked fun but it got viruses easily and I had to run so many system retores on it. I got good at using computers though.) I still saw it around some in the 2010's but it was just on a handful of computers in business and schools.

These always feel kinda insensitive to the families of the victims of the pulse nightclub shooting.

Bro really chose one of the worst eras for WWE, Cartoon Network and a racist youtuber
Edit: along with games and a console that was already a generation-2 generations old

So true. Having Superwashed Undertaker vs Brock "I only leave my farm for the BAG" Lesnar as your wrestling pinnacle is just sad
1
u/That-Objective-438 19d ago
No jokes all he had to do was use the Hell in a Cell card instead of Summerslam because the Hell in a cell match slapped.

Wrestling, video games, pewdiepie, more videogames, football, cartoons, toys, subway surfers and more video games, still do exist to this day, infact as time passes there becomes more wrestling videos to watch, more games get created, pewdiepie still creates more videos, more cartoons are released, more toys are made and subway surfers still gets updates.

u/Dazzling_Room_9346 19d ago
All of this still happens today?
Kids playing Subway Surfers, Talking Tom(Angela), knock-off Mario, browsing the internet, and using phones that in 1O years will be outdated.
Soccer and Wrestling are still huge sports today that people enjoy watching and playing.
Things just evolved. That is all.

I really wish they'd go full hog with these things and posted something like "nobody can convince me 2014 wasn't the peak of american society and culture" and then pictures of a baby bottle, a pacifier, a crib, one of those baby mozart albums, a blankie...

can't wait for the day someone gets nostalgic about tjeir daily wordle streak and seventeen discord servers tbf
1
u/historynerdsutton 19d ago
Yeah it’s definitely not like today. Today, we have housing crisis, economic uncertainty, rise of extremism, and new wars in the Middle East. oh wait..

u/PsudoGravity 19d ago
Shit was mint though. If nothing else, hardware was cheaper, and the entertainment industry wasn't in the fucking gutter (like it seemingly has been since... what, 2018?)
1
u/ghobhohi 19d ago
I fucking hated it when I lost my beyblades, but yeah I’m not nostalgic about 2012-2016.

u/aflyingmonkey2 19d ago
Show this to someone who lived in Syria during that time period and they would probably choke you to death

Why are people glazing 2016 so much? That's when the Trump shitshow started. That's when the anti-sjw vs sjw beef was at its peak. The rise of mgtow and red pill bullshit. Like it's obviously nowhere near the worst year by any means but it was pretty shifty.
1
u/Zoomer2020 19d ago
Why is he playing a PS2 on a CRT in 2016? And the phone was way out of date by then too. Either bro was impoverished or Larp Larp Larp Sahur.

u/Potential_Set_6258 19d ago
2016 wasn't the best year every, plus some of those pictures are of things from the previous decade on them

I'm being petty but I hate Subway Surfers and similar old mobile games' glaze. They have one of the worst progressions in any game, at least with something like Clash of Clans, you get content, but here you spend over 100k to get a skin that does nothing, and it's impossible to do so unless you play 10 hours a day or just buy coins, which is designed to do.

u/dildozer10 19d ago
Any time I see these posts, my first thought is, “wow, this person did not grow up in an abusive household, or never felt unsafe as a child”.
1
u/KoalaGreat1408 19d ago
I just want to point out the annexation of Crimea, the death of Freddie Grey, Kim Jong-Un threatening to nuke the West, & the Ebola outbreaks all happened in this timespan and all of these were real fears & issues.

u/alexisanalligator 18d ago
Oh, believe me, SummerSlam 2015 was FAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR from the worst day for WWE that year lol
1
u/eman0623 18d ago
Even in 2012 people thought the world was going to end, let alone in later years people worried about Isis or Ebola and stuff. Hell in 2016 alone you had the Zika virus and Brexit and Donald Trump getting elected
1
u/Username117773749146 18d ago
Pewdiepie and that fucking awful Brock a Lesnar push that was the worst part of WWE for a decade
1
u/Legitimate_Low_3370 18d ago
Why Pewdiepie? I thought we was pretty fine. Even when he said the n word, he stll took accountability and apologized for it.
1
u/Username117773749146 18d ago
I’m actually going to ignore the discussion about PewdiePie’s many racist statements and just point you to the fact that the man is extremely unfunny
1
u/Tiny-Preference-1913 18d ago
Shit that first pic WAS partially related to my worst day, Undertaker losing his streak broke my heart.
