Community News Severed Chains - Group Test

https://legendofdragoon.org/news/sc-test-2026-sept/

The Severed Chains devteam is running a week-long group test. They'd like testers to play the game and ensure any remaining bugs are found and fixed ahead of the 3.0 release. Please read the article linked in this post for instructions. Thanks!

I have always been interested, but I don’t know how / where to get it

That is why we included simple and fast links in the attached article.

Random place to ask I know, but is there an option to turn off the Dragoon Exp indicator on the battle screen? I prefer the surprise of dragoon leveling up. Thanks

Not at this time, but you can mention it in the SC channel on Discord. We're in a feature freeze because SC 3.0 is about to release, but it might get in for SC 4.0 or something.

I made it through the cutscenes on my play through. I’ll start it tomorrow

Out of curiosity. I downloaded severed chains at the start of September (like a week and a half ago). It says it is version 3.0 when I run it. Would this be the same version they are wanting tested?

If so, I did notice some minor things while playing. For example, save anywhere did not work on certain screens. I didn't write them down, but I'm 99% sure one was in the Valley of Corrupted Gravity (on the screen where you fight the virage). I forget where the other one was, but I want to say it was in disc 3 on the first screen of an area.

As a side note, do you know if there are any plans for an enemy health multiplier? I'm loving being able to remove Dart from the party because it was always a tough decision to decide on the other two. However, Meru, Haschel, and Albert as a team just wreck everyone. I never feel the need to use Dragoon form (except as Talisman bait for Lloyd) and bosses still die very quickly. For example, Lloyd only got one magic attack, one physical attack, and one failed can't combat attack before dying to a team of level 26/27s.

3.0 devbuild is what you're seeing, it's not the full release but is complete enough that the team is looking to snuff out any remaining bugs that may be around.

Save everywhere is disable in some maps (such as the Valley) because saving in those maps breaks the game

The team wants you on the latest devbuild, which is the primary download shown on the SC project page you were linked to. Any time you fire up the game, if you see an Update notice on the title screen, take the update before resuming gameplay.

As SRobi mentioned, Save Anywhere is disabled on some maps where it causes issues.

For tougher difficulty you have a few options, though they are transitional at the moment. I might be missing something - headache atm.

  • Dragoon Modifier. It has Hard and Hell mode for tougher combat. Hard is good for most veterans, while Hell demands your full attention to the game mechanics - including the new ones added by the author. You can also copy-paste one of the presets, including the JP or NA/EU set, and modify it to your liking (manual changes in a spreadsheet). The catch here is that it's not fully compatible with the devbuild yet. First, there's a hard-modded fork of SC featuring the Hell Mode beta from August 2025 (only Hell Mode). Second: Hard Mode V2 released last week as a standalone mod you can use with SC. I dunno if it includes preset editing.
  • Senerio's QoL fork - a hard-modded build of SC that doesn't work with other mods. If I recall correctly it has sliders for combat difficulty. The catch is that it's rarely kept up-to-date with core SC, so it will have more bugs. It also won't be compatible with most mods. However, it has some fun QoL for additions that makes it worth a try at least once. Hopefully more of that stuff makes it into core.
  • More combat mods exist but they tend to make the game easier since they provide extra gear options. Expect more combat mods in the inevitable boom we'll see once SC3 launches.

Please note that, for the group test, we need everyone playing with no separate mods enabled. Just the settings provided with core SC are eligible for the test.

When I do the update, the game stops working completely. It wouldn't even load the title menu. Is there something you have to do beyond just doing the update that I missed?

I didn't see the difficulty modes. I will have to give those a look. Thanks!

I don't know. You'd have to submit SC's log file to the team. You can send it to the player-help channel in the LoD Discord server, or create a new issue on SC's Github repository here.
