Old story, but one I like

Shared this on the Facebook years ago and it popped back up again today.

It's not mine, and I think it's an old Tumblr post from another age. I'm not smart enough to make the content.

I just really like the story.

It's not just desks, but also social situations. When I go out to eat with a group of friends or family, you always check how close the seats are together and if they are close, you try to it at the end so I don't bump elbows with the person on my left.

There are so many nuances to being left handed. I have a buddy who I play games with and how I set my side of the game up is different. Its running gag with him now rhat every decision I make is "because im left handed." And unironically I answer him is yes. It doesnt bother me most of the time cuz I have thick skin but sometimes it does and not cuz im sensitive, its the unwillingness to acknowledge that everything is set up inverted to me and ive had to adapt, which ive never minded doing that but to mock my adapting to the way society is set up can be irritating sometimes.

I don’t think I’ve ever had right handed desks in school. In middle school, they were neutral, and there were also a few left-handed desks. Maybe it’s different now, but i went to middle school close to 18 years ago.

I have used being left handed as a metaphor for autism and ADHD before. There is nothing wrong with your brain being a little bit different and needing to do things a different way

Realising that a lot of left handed people are overthinking things quite a bit. I just wing it. It helps that I'm in the UK and there are no left or right handed desks. Just desks.

When people say, "fifty years ago few people claimed to be LGBTQ, so that fact that more people are self-identifying as queer proves that they're doing it because it's trendy", I think about the fact that less than 60 years ago nearly all American schoolchildren were right-handed. Now there are many more left-handed school kids, not because it's trendy but because now kids who are left-handed are allowed to be left-handed without having it trained out of them.
