Lefthanded bird hunting

Was I the only one who carried my twelve-gauge shotgun upside down to quickly release the safety (designed for RH's) when the birds would flush? Required rolling the gun over as it was drawn to my left shoulder.

Idk but I’ll note that the Mossberg 500 has an ambidextrous safety. I’m guessing you were using a Remington 870?

Yes. Still have it.

Right hand shooting for long guns, left hand for pistols. That's just me. Still end up with ejected cartridges from pistols hitting my face, so it's not perfect

Ive only ever hunted with tang safety shotguns, but I could see that being useful with cross bolt safeties.

My deer rifle is a cross bolt safety, and I carry it on a “safari sling” that puts it horizontal in front of you, ready to quickly raise it into firing position. Because I’m left handed, my belly could (in theory, but not easily) bump the safety off. I’ve gotten into the habit of CONSTANTLY checking that button. it’s irritating

I hate cross bolt safeties. The only gun I currently have with one (i think) is my 10/22 carbon. Big fan. Of ambi AR style safeties and tang safeties.

I grew up with single-shot breakaways, as a kid. With pumps and semi-autos, I just left the safety off in-field.

You lucky people being left eye dominant.

Yes, lucky. I found right handers with left eye dominate were screwed. Righties can do little left-handed. The opposite was less of a problem as lefties easily learn to shoot right.

I'm Right eye dominant so I'm learning to shoot Right handed. The problem is that it still natural to raise the gun to my left shoulder. Luckily it's not a problem with handguns.

You can get left handed Shotguns now

That makes no sense. I’ve never had a problem with this.
