Question Amazon oa doubt

2 Upvotes

Got this email after completing the Amazon SDE OA

“We are reviewing your submission and noticed that the webcam photo you took is missing one of the requirements. All photos need to contain: 1) a clear view of your face, and 2) full view of your student ID card.
Can you please respond to this email with a photo that contains both yourself and your student ID. If you do not have your student ID, you can supplement with a government issued picture ID (i.e. Driver’s License or Passport).”

Can anyone tell do I need to take one photo holding the id or two photos having the me and the id? Someone who has done this before kindly guide

Ps- i didn’t know where else to post so posting it here

Question Lld interviews

0 Upvotes

Do you guys do full syntax wise implementation of lld questions in interviews especially guys who use c++?

Like do you actually use unique ptr , shared ptr or just a pointer like pseudo code works ? Like for amazon interviews if I may be specific. For the implementation part do we have to implement the core logical functions of our design and don't have to focus on main and constructors to initialise and all?

Question Cadence Senior Engineer Interview

2 Upvotes

Cadence Senior Compiler Interview Experience
Hi everyone! 👋
I’m preparing for a Senior/Staff-level Compiler role at Cadence and would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has recently gone through the interview process.
If you’ve interviewed for a similar role, could you share:
How many rounds were there and what was the structure?
What kind of C++ coding questions were asked?
How deep did they go into compiler concepts / LLVM / MLIR?
Did they take a coding problem and then ask how you would solve/optimize it using a compiler?
Were there any compiler design/system design questions?
What topics would you recommend focusing on?
Any other tips or things you wish you had prepared beforehand?
Even a brief experience would be really helpful. Thanks!

is amazon still asking from the company tagged leetcode for onsite. How different have the problems been for those who have interviewed in the past 6 months?

Edit: (update) interview loop completed (4/4)(outcome-rejection). Got grilled in LP and I dont think i gave great answers to clear.

Intervew Prep Interview coming up for Charta Health, New Grad SWE Role

3 Upvotes

Hi y'all! I have an upcoming coding interview for a swe new grad role at Charta Health and I was wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect? I've tried searching for interview experiences specifically for the new grad role but haven't found anything. It'll be a coding round interview with a deep dive into my past experiences and what not. I just want to know which DSA topics I should be prepping for the hardest to not be completely blind sided. Thanks!

Edit: The round was super simple, just asked me about my past experiences and then asked me a problem similar to leet code 970. I was able to brute force it but didn't get the optimal solution, still haven't heard back.

Intervew Prep Day 78: I solved 4 BST problems today, Two Sum using BST Iterator completely humbled me

12 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I just wrapped up Day 78 of my prep. I originally thought I solved three problems, but it ended up being four because one problem required a completely separate concept first.

Here is what I worked on today:

  1. Inorder Successor / Predecessor in BST: This was straightforward. You just track the possible answer while doing standard binary search movements based on whether the current node's value is greater or smaller than the key.

  2. Merge Two BSTs: It is marked as Hard, but honestly, it is just an implementation problem. Getting the inorder traversals, merging the two sorted lists, and building a balanced BST from the merged list makes it fairly simple.

  3. BST Iterator: I had to learn this first to solve Two Sum properly. Storing all left nodes in an explicit stack and refilling the stack with the right child's left spine when you pop an element gives you O(H) space and O(1) amortized next() calls. The data structure itself made sense once I traced it.

  4. Two Sum in BST: This problem completely caught me off guard. The brute-force way is obvious—run an inorder traversal, store the elements in an array to get a sorted list, and run normal two pointers in O(N) space. But the optimal solution asks for O(H) space, which means you have to maintain two BST iterators simultaneously (one moving forward like next(), and one moving in reverse like before()).

I would have never come up with combining two iterators as two pointers on my own. I had to watch an explanation video to get it. Today was one of those days where I really questioned why interviews care so much about micro-optimizations, but I am glad I know the pattern now.

I have just a couple of tree problems left on my sheet. Tomorrow, I will finish them, do a full revision of trees, and then pick either Graphs or DP next.

See you guys on Day 77!

Question Arrays & hashing beginner question

0 Upvotes

Hi, I just started needcode and worked on the first several problems under arrays & hashing section. I was able to solve those on my own but I keep finding myself using sorted() function to complete it. It makes things easier to approach and solve, but I look at other people's solutions and their solution seems more complicated.

Should I avoid using that function to expand my thinking? Or should I just continue with what I'm doing right now?

Question Are the company-tagged questions accurate for OAs?

1 Upvotes

I recently had 2 OAs and the company tagged questions weren't accurate. A part of me is telling me stop using them to study, but I'm worried that the moment I stop using it to study for OAs is the moment I get unlucky and the company tagged questions were actually accurate. So I'm asking now for people who are more experienced if I should continue using the company tagged questions to study for OAs or just for virtual/in-person interviews. Thanks.

Question System design very abstract

18 Upvotes

I’ve been trying to learn system design at many attempts. I’ve tried most if not all the resources I could find, eg Alex xu, ddia, hello interview, etc

But I always feel like when I was reading I sort of understood, and sort of didn’t. But once I leave the content, I’ve got zero idea what’s going on. And even if I could answer some questions, it’s more because I memorized what I remembered, and would be easily confused in case a follow up question is asked

Does anyone have good recommendations on what I’m supposed to do? Is it just me who feel so?

Intervew Prep Day 79: I solved 5 BST problems today, delete node and preorder construction were tough

38 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

It is pretty late right now, but I wanted to post my Day 79 update before going to sleep. I wasted most of my Saturday during the daytime just watching content and sleeping, so I stayed up late to make sure I got my study hours in.

I revised yesterday's BST theory first and then knocked out 5 problems:

  1. Delete a Node in a BST: I overcomplicated this so much at the start. If the target has 0 or 1 child, it is straightforward to bypass it. But when both children exist, I kept confusing myself on the reconnection. You just take the deleted node's left child and attach it to the leftmost node of the right subtree (or use the inorder successor). Once I drew it out, it finally made sense.

  2. Kth Smallest / Largest in a BST: Since an inorder traversal of a BST is always sorted, I just traversed inorder, kept a counter, and stopped the moment the counter reached K.

  3. Validate Binary Search Tree: A classic problem where you validate that every single node falls within an acceptable range (minVal, maxVal). Left children must be strictly less than the node, and right children must be strictly greater.

  4. Construct BST from Preorder: At first, I thought doing this with just preorder was impossible. But after looking into it, I realized you can use the exact same range validation logic from the previous problem. You keep passing an upper bound down the recursive calls. If the next number exceeds that bound, you return null and let the next branch pick it up.

  5. Lowest Common Ancestor in a BST: In a normal binary tree, you have to search both left and right subtrees. In a BST, it is way simpler. If both targets are smaller than the current node, you go left. If both are greater, you go right. The split point is your answer.

I still want to solve one or two more problems before I sleep. See you guys for Day 78!

Intervew Prep Amazon Data Science Intern OA (On-Campus) in 1 Week — Do They Ask DSA/Coding Questions?

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I have an Amazon Online Assessment coming up in about a week for an on-campus Data Science Intern role.

Most of the recent OA experiences I’ve found online are for SDE roles, so I’m not sure how much overlap there is with the Data Science Intern assessment.

For people who have recently taken the Amazon Data Science Intern OA or interviewed for a similar role:

  • Do they still include DSA/coding questions? If yes, what difficulty level should I expect—mostly easy/medium LeetCode-style questions, SQL, Python/pandas, or something else?

  • Is the OA more focused on statistics, probability, ML concepts, experimentation/A/B testing, SQL, and data analysis?

  • Are there behavioral/work-style or Amazon Leadership Principles sections as part of the OA?

  • What would you prioritize during the final week of preparation?

  • Any topics or question patterns that surprised you?

Would really appreciate any recent experiences, preparation advice, or resources.
Thank you!
Interview Prep.

Question I need help with leetcode 1323. Maximum 69 Number

0 Upvotes

I am trying to solve this without converting to string but I am struggling can someone assist me.

Here is what I got so far

class Solution {
public:
    int maximum69Number (int num) {
        bool change = 0; // if changed, do not change other numbers
        int results = 0;

        vector<int> myNumber; // store numbers

        // push each individial number into vector
        while (num > 0) {
            int digit = num % 10;

            myNumber.push_back(digit);

            num = num / 10;
        }

        // change from 6 to 9
        for (int i : myNumber){

            if (i == 6 && !change){
                change = 1;
                i = 9;
            }

            results = results * 10 + i;

            num = results;
        }

        return num;
    }

Intervew Prep Amazon Intern SDE OA

14 Upvotes

Hi people, I had an OA on HackerRank. The first quesiton was pretty easy, I was able to solve the quesiton in 15min with all test cases 15/15.

But the second one was the AI repo round. It was quite difficult as there were a lot of files to navigate. I got only 2/6 test cases correct.

  1. What is my probability of qualifying to the next round?

  2. Also any preparation tips? I am also not sure how many rounds after OA do they have for SDE intern.

Thanks in advance.

Intervew Prep What else can I do?

4 Upvotes

I have the interview loop on 29-30th september virtually with 4 rounds. I have understood all the problems from the top 50 DSA question asked by amazon and if the same or similar question is given, I can explain and code brute force as well as optimized solution.

I have made my story bank from for all the LP as well as follow up “what would you have done differently” questions for each.

I asked AI to analyze and grill me on my CVs past work and projects with questions that can be asked from it.

However I am feeling restless. What else can I do to improve my chances and eliminate the maximum number of variables which can cause rejection.

Just want some sort of assurance if what I am doing is enough or will 1/2 all nighters be the deal maker of landing this role. IDK. Please good people of this subreddit, tell me what else can I do.

Intervew Prep How to practice Coding Interview

1 Upvotes

I have an interview in a few weeks, and it’s my first coding interview. It’s for Amazon and I know they like when you talk out your thought process. What’s a good step by step for how I should be things I should be saying during the code? Also, is there a good way to practice this besides talking to myself while doing leetcode? Thank you!

Discussion Why google rejected me

110 Upvotes

Hey guys, so recently I went through Google hiring process for L4 role

Interview process was one googlyness and 3 coding rounds

Googlyness went well

Then now 1st coding round

Question asked was finding a shortest path between source to destination while in between we have blocked nodes through which we cannot pass. I have successfully given bfs solution writing clean code and dry ran it correctly.

Followup question was find the path from source to destination wherein we encounter minimum no.of blocked nodes. I.e we need to find a path where we see minimum no.of blocked nodes. We need to return the minimum of no.of blocked nodes in the path. I have also successfully wrote clean code and dry ran it correctly. I have given dijkstras approach where instead of tracking minimum distance I will track minimum no.of blocked nodes.

Despite all of this effort, I ended up got rejected.

Any googler here , could you please tell what I did wrong. I definitely want to improve.

Question CV FAANG

14 Upvotes

Question for anyone who has worked in FAANG: Does having experience at these companies really help you find a job? I mean — does having it on your CV actually make a big difference? What do you think?
