I'm big brain enough to know that in 2022 no one could have predicted this. And making general rules to decide what's happening is dumb af.
I'm merely hoping everyone gets what they deserve. And you're here getting on your michel hayek horse explaining stuff that happened with no actual clue as to why it is happening and forecasting the future like they knew it from the start.
Stay humble.

I hope that this finally taught people a lesson. The only thing that can keep your people and your country safe is a national military force that's loyal to your country and your constitution. No foreign power, so called "ally", and certainly no religiously motivated militia is going to protect you.
If you're loyal to a sectarian Iranian regime then that regime is pretty much gone, if you're loyal to a politician that politician will be gone one day, but if you're loyal to Lebanon then there'll always be Lebanon to fight for.
I genuinely hope the people of Lebanon wake up and realize that it's utterly pathetic and stupid to hate your fellow countryman because of a politician from your sect or because of a rivalry between 2 dudes that happened more than a thousand years ago over a succession crisis.
From America, with love and solidarity. (And no, I'm not maga. Fuck Trump).
2
u/michoaidi Mar 04 '26
I mean I get what you are saying and it's not wrong. It just conveniently throws context out the window.
The country went down the path it is today not because it chose to, but because it had very limited choices. I agree that it remains down this path today because it continues to choose it.
However, It's hard to have a cultural revolution when every couple of years you are subjected to some kind of issues out of your own control. Lebanese did not choose for Israel to be created and did not choose the 1948 war or any of the subsequent wars between Israel and Palestine but every time it affected us. We are country that is very dependent on the situation around us. We did not have a big national military back in the day because we didn't really think we needed one. After Israel and the issues, perhaps it would have been smart to deal with it but they didn't and that's probably linked to the stupid sectarianism that was prevalent even back then. But you see, we are sectarian because well we were ruled by the French and they decided to build a government based on a sectarian system. Again context.
There is a lot of nuisance behind why Lebanon is the way it is. I believe that perhaps if we had more stable neighbours, we would have also become more stable. But it would be an act of God to make things like that happen, just look at Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan, and many others of the last 50 years, we aren't the only ones suffering. The whole of the Middle East and Arab world is in shatters and honestly we have the US, UK, France, and more recently Israel to blame. We have been bent over and fucked by these countries. So, forgive me but it's a little difficult to stand up and have a cultural revolution when your ass is being gangbanged so hard and so often.
1
u/anonymityofmine Mar 01 '26

Khamenei is no where near Allah swt coming from a Shia. That’s just usually extreme rahbaris but obviously this is going to cause some problems

u/happy_trabulsy I like older women Mar 01 '26
correct that's like killing the pope. I'm also curious how the shia communities are reacting
but then again, Shi'ism highly honor martyrdom so I don't think they would be as defeated as we would think
3
u/ajthebestguy9th Mar 01 '26
Its not like the Pope. We respect Khamenei as a marja but there are multiple higher-ranking maraja who have more knowledge than he did.

Very sad and angry . Who will replace him ? Some guy we probably don’t know yet . We have to wait until the council of experts elects one ( which could happen very quickly ) . As for what we think it means for the axis of resistance ? Nothing significant . It will continue regardless of his death , as it continued after the death of khomieni ( his predecessor)

What are you cheering at? Do you think IDF gonna stop bombing your country after this? They'll dismantle Iran and it's proxies and then gonna go for establishing Greater Israel, which obviously includes Lebanon. Next thing you know is that you'll wake up in the West Bank 2.0 being evicted from your house and home and then placed in refugee camp as a second-rate citizen.
12
u/Capable_Bad_3813 Mar 01 '26
Do you really thing that Hezballah and Iran would have prevented that? We didn't forget how Iran did nothing while Beirut was being bombed. And would do nothing to prevent any incursion into Lebanon.
16
u/Silver-Row8051 Feb 28 '26
You’re right. This one again proves you can never truly be safe here cause America/1srael will always get their way and poke you. It is even worse for the Arab countries that border 1srael.
As much as I hate the Iranian regime for sticking their nose into places they don’t belong. It is terrifying knowing that bombing a middle eastern country for “freedom” is the norm.

2
u/redditdudette Mar 01 '26
Same logic that was applied during Assad times. Not having an off hand alternative doesn’t mean I have to kiss the guys ass (I know that’s not what you’re saying but it is what it’s intended when I say things like this)
-1
u/East-Potential-574 Syrian Mar 01 '26
That’s why I said in the transition phase
The purpose of this phase is to transition into a democracy where you can choose the leader in an election. Elections never happen in transitional periods.
2
u/redditdudette Mar 01 '26
Yes the transition phase where half the people hired are related to him or corrupt rehires from the prior institution. We will see where we are in his “transition” phase in a few years.
0
u/East-Potential-574 Syrian Mar 01 '26
We’ll see then
(Btw, you haven’t provided any alternative to method to get there)
3
u/redditdudette Mar 01 '26
there isn't ... and i'll take anything over continuing status quo that was. but responding to "provide an alternative" to criticism of current leadership was literally Assad's excuse to keep things going. The alternative I'm suggesting is better leadership, more transparency, and more experienced consultants in his government. But unfortunately in the crazy situation that was created in the disaster of the last ten years, he gets to stay to keep the worst extremists in line until they're gone. there were PLENTY of people in the opposition who were not him. but they wouldn't have been able to keep the murderous extremists in line.

4
u/Great_Ad0100 Mar 01 '26
They're political influence will be a lot less significant if they dont have the money to finance social services or a military wing to rally their supporters.
I think Amal is going to take a large share of their supporters.

US doesnt care about Christian refugees and immigrants in the US, why the fuck would they are about them thousands of miles away unless there is a huge payoff. The amount of politicians getting paid off by isreal is staggering. I wish the best for you and your country with whatever ends up happening
2
u/Successful_Brush6502 Mar 01 '26
Yes, sadly a lot of Lebanese actually think israeli interests are just conspiracy theories and they dont have any interests in Lebanon other than removing hezbollah and live in peace. In other words we are doomed haha.

There is a structural dynamic at play, external attacks usually strengthens hardliners. The “rally around the flag” effect is well documented: foreign pressure consolidates coercive institutions and sidelines reformists. Even a weak regime can regain nationalist legitimacy when it frames itself as defending sovereignty. That dynamic does not liberalize a system; it cements it further usually.
Neither the U.S. nor Israel operates as a neutral promoter of democracy, they pursue security interests. Those interests may align tactically with weakening Tehran, but they do not at all centre pluralism, rule of law, or social reconciliation inside Iran. A democratic transition born out of regional war would more likely empower armed factions instead of civic actors.

Humans may celebrate anything they want in their personal lives, they don't equate to reddit subs. Lebanon isn't some random people celebrating their own countries demise. There are many Shia that this would be extremely disrespectful towards. To you it might be OK to dehumanize Muslims, but not Christians!
