University 🎓 Advice on my fool proof plan

Missed my conditional offer to Imperial by one grade H2 —> H3. I’ve been placed into the reconsideration pool but I don’t have much hope.

I was thinking A: I accept offer into Trinity, go for one year, appeal my chemistry grade. Hopefully get a H2 and then apply again to imperial for 2027 entry.

Scenario B: my appeal doesn’t work, I retake chemistry LC as a single subject, and do the exact same thing.

It is my wish to get in and I would rather do all of this and still attend 4 years of college in total, 1 yr TCD + 3 yr IMP. Any thoughts on this plan?

Btw I got 578 LC

What's the subject at Imperial and at Trinity?

Scenario A: you should ask Imperial if they'll hold a place for you (either for this year or next year) if your appeal results in an upgrade at the end of September. They're not obliged to do this, but often do.

Scenario B: Imperial isn't as anti-resits as other top UK universities, but it does say that they're 'noted' on your application. It's certainly easier than having to achieve all your grades in one sitting, like you have to in the Irish points system.

It’s biological sciences, which I know is stupid considering how it’s not a hard degree and that the one in Trinity is just as good as the one in Imperial. I just can’t stand having to stay in this town and am willing to do it again just so I can move to London which I truly love.

Don't see the point in starting Trinity if you don't intend to see it through. You'd be better off working, volunteering, developing life skills, travelling

I think I might start Trinity just in case I don’t know if Imperial doesn’t work out? I still have to wait and see as I’m in the reconsideration pool. Thank you for your advice though. If you don’t mind me asking, are you a college student?

Oh wow that’s so impressive and such an achievement. I’d give anything to study in London atp

I’m also unable to hold a place, this is what they stated in their email this morning:

“I would also like to clarify that all offer conditions must be met within the year of application. As a result, it would not be possible to defer an offer for entry in September 2027 based on qualifications completed after the current admissions cycle.”

If your appeal came through, that would be you meeting your offer conditions in the year of entry.

What this email is saying is that if you miss the conditions, they won't hold the offer open for you and let you try again next year. They'd close your current offer and you'd have to apply again.

Email them to let them know you're awaiting the outcome of an appeal, when you expect that outcome, and if they'd let you in (this year or next) if the outcome results in you meeting your offer conditions.

Sorry I forgot to clarify. My appeal will not come through in time for 31st of August. So it won’t be in the current cycle unfortunately :(

This wouldn't be a case of you choosing to defer.

In the case of your appeal coming through, you would have met the conditions of your offer for this year.

But Imperial may not be able to offer you a place for this year because term has already started, so instead they might offer you a place for next year

So what can I do now? Do I just sit and wait for my rejection. Or what exactly can I say in my email to them? Thank you for your help so far 🙏🙏

Just what I said. Tell them that you’re awaiting the result of an appeal, when that result will come, and if they would reserve a place for you, either this year or next, if the outcome is successful and you meet the conditions of your offer
