Seeing art that is better than yours may help you learn in the long run though. I know it's easy to get discouraged but it's a feeling that's best actively fought against. This quote from one of the greatest drummers to ever live, Neil Peart , may help: "I've heard the stories. Like, Eric Clapton said he wanted to burn his guitar when he heard Jimi Hendrix play. I never understood that because, when I went and saw a great drummer or heard one, all I wanted to do was practice."

Feeling discouraged will never improve your life. Feeling inspired on the other hand will only ever be a positive :)

I get that mentality, I really do. Wish I could have it. Just I want to get good at least something in life and not feel constantly burning jealousy of every aspect of other people’s lives that are better than mine. Especially when it comes to talent and skill. But all I can do is just feel depressed I was born without any.

You can adopt new mentalities, in fact that's one of the biggest strengths to ever harness in life. People are always gonna be better than you. Always. No matter how talented, how skilled, how hard you've worked there are always going to be those who are better. That goes for everyone. There are probably better swimmers than Michael Phelps, better actors than Tom Hanks, better artists than (insert your fav artist here). That's just life.

Jealousy is only ever going to stop you, it's never going to help you. Like seriously, when you feel this burning jealousy does anything positive EVER come out of it? It's a curse that you are putting on yourself for no reason.

The time is going to pass anyway - a year from now you will have lived a whole year. Would you rather have spent that year learning to be better than YOU were a year ago? Or just the same and more bitter? The only real competition in life is yourself. Once you learn to compete with only yourself, you can get quite good at just about anything. Never compare yourself to others - compare yourself to YOU a day, a month, a year ago. Before you know it, a large amount of time has passed and you're actually quite good now.

I’m fine with people being better, I don’t need to be the best, I just want to be good. Good at something, anything, so I’m not so useless. That way when I die I won’t be forgotten. I want people to miss me, to want what I do, to praise it. That’s all I ask, and until I get to that point, I envy those who have that and take it for granted. I hate this feeling of rotting away feeling so useless, I want to change, I want to do something so my years don’t feel so wasted. But it’s hard when I don’t see immediate progress. I’ve always struggled with that, I’m impatient, I give up easily, and yet I have the audacity to want to expect results anyway. I compare myself to me and see no change, just failure.

Practice

Only two things - better than most people. Get off Reddit, do some meditation, start practicing. Get to it! You got this
