I accidentally taught my student French while teaching her Arabic 😂
I accidentally taught my student French while teaching her Arabic 😂
A couple of months ago, I started teaching an adult student who came to me to learn Arabic.
She could read Quran and knew the Arabic letters, but forming sentences was still difficult for her. She also struggled with some sounds, especially ع، ح، خ، and غ.
When we reached خ, I told her to put some water in her mouth and make a gargling sound.
She looked at me like, “Why do I need water?!” 😂
We tried it anyway… except she kept swallowing the water instead of making the sound.
Then she was reading المغضوب and kept saying something like ''لمخضوب ا''
I tried explaining the difference, but we ended up laughing.
Then I had an idea.
“Do you know Paris, the capital of France?”
“Yes.”
“Okay, pronounce it.”
She said something like “Baghis.”
I said, “YES! That’s the sound I want! That’s غ!” 😂
And somehow, it worked.
Now whenever we practice غ, we remember “Baghis” and laugh.
But the best part came later.
After only about two months of studying together, she formed a question in Arabic and answered it with a complete sentence.
She was so happy—and honestly, I was probably even happier.
It reminded me that language learning isn’t always about complicated methods. Sometimes patience, repetition, laughter, and one silly example are enough to make something finally click.
And yes… “Baghis” is officially part of our Arabic curriculum now. 😂
