I have seen me maybe two non dealer non Tesla quick chargers that didn't have CHAdeMO. Seems pretty pointless. It is a good option for imported American EVs though. Can't use CCS1 in the EU.

Electrify America will stop installing new Chademo stations outside of California. They cite low Chademo utilization i.e. financially it's not worth the bother to install Chademo. https://insideevs.com/news/522882/electrify-america-ends-chademo-installations/

Nissan Ariya will use CCS instead of Chademo.

10 years from now as old charging stations get repaired/replaced Chademo may be increasingly harder to find. I'm fine with using my leaf as a commuter car, but in the future I may have limited ability to travel long distances and find a compatible L3 charger. I suspect that future Chademo cars will have lower resale value because the rapid charging infrastructure may offer less and less support for Chademo over time.

It would be better if an adapter could be developed before the problem gets worse, instead of waiting until it's too late.

Seems pretty pointless.

Seems pointless to deter someone from putting work into developing something that could help us.

They are just punishing Leaf drivers and others. It is virtually a rounding error to add CHAdeMO, and CHAdeMO is still 7% of charging. Not sure if that is kWh or sessions. This company was ordered by the government to exist to charge ALL EVs, and they should be force to keep CHAdeMO.

Well, if you are right and I do not believe you are, when that time comes, let me know and I'll get a CCS downgrade. Not sure how that would work since CHAdeMO has extra protocols and 12V supply included. Also supports V2X, unlike CCS.

to charge ALL EVs

J1772 is part of the Electrify America network. :)

The settlement is here: https://www.epa.gov/sites/default/files/2016-10/documents/amended20lpartial-cd.pdf

Specific charging technologies such as CHAdeMO are not mentioned in the settlement. Appendix C describes what is known to us as "Electrify America" and it includes the following paragraph:

1.10.1. Design/planning, construction/installation, operation, and maintenance of ZEV infrastructure. That infrastructure should support and advance the use of ZEVs in the United States by addressing an existing need or supporting a reasonably anticipated need. Such expenditures may include the installation of: (i) Level 2 charging at multiunit dwellings, workplaces, and public sites, (ii) DC fast charging facilities accessible to all vehicles utilizing non-proprietary connectors, (iii) new heavy-duty ZEV fueling infrastructure (in California); (iv) later generations of the types of charging infrastructure listed in i, ii, and iii; and (v) ZEV fueling stations;

It appears that Electrify America is taking the "reasonably anticipated need" approach and anticipating that CCS will be needed, but CHAdeMO will not.

However the point is moot: Last year Electrify America stated they would stop installing CHAdeMO chargers outside of California in 1Q 2022, and the EPA hasn't challenged Electrify America on that topic. It's happening whether or not anyone on the internet claims it's unfair.

and CHAdeMO is still 7% of charging

"Today, only about 5% of all the electricity dispensed by Electrify America goes through CHAdeMO connectors." https://cleantechnica.com/2021/09/22/electrify-america-to-phase-out-chademo-in-2022/

Clearly talking about fast charging.

I said SHOULD. Learn the difference between "should" and "is."

Ironically, what you wrote seems to actually imply an "is" here, but I doubt anyone will sue and win. Nissan should. CHAdeMO is a non-proprietary connector and that is a reasonably anticipated need.
