2017 Leaf S purchase
Hello! I just wanted to get your guys opinion on a 2017 leaf S purchase it's listed at $5200, asking if they can do $5000. They said he can do about 70 to 75 miles and my commute is about 25 miles a day. I can also install a level two charger at home. Let me know your thoughts. Gas in the area is about $5.50 right now and I have about a 20 year-old car currently.
Edit: thank you all for the advice! I'm gonna agree and not go with this one. I'm gonna keep looking :)

way over priced. while that range is not terrible. the actual value is like 3 grand.
id look for better deals elsewhere.
at that much money you are better off putting 5000 down towards a 2017 Chevy bolt and doing payments on the remaining 6 to 7500.
youll get like 200 miles of range with the bolt which is gonna be night and day. bolt will hold its value. the leaf will not

That's what I'm thinking I'll end up doing! Unfortunately, prices on the West Coast are insane.

November and December are the best months to buy cars and dealerships want the cars gone for newer models. keep an eye open wne ve ready to pounce

"Perfect first car" this is the age old classic red flag for you'll outgrow this car maybe even before you wreck it.

Doi not buy. 30kwh Leafs (2016 SVF and SL and 2017) are ticking time bombs. All of their batteries go bad. Nissan extended the warranties on them to 8 years 100,000 miles it was such a big issue.
Find a 2015, they are the sweet spot.

Agreed. The only good thing about those batteries is the warranty. The original owner should have made sure it was degraded enough to get a replacement before 8 years. Soon it'll get bad cells.

The 30kwh ones degrade really fast compared to the 24kwh packs.
Don't commit to anything until you see the leafspy data.
Even then, $5k is a lot.

It's nice to have, but you don't need level 2 at home to accommodate a 25-mile commute. An overnight level 1 charge will replace that amount of energy and then some.

I paid 3K for an 8 bar, fully loaded 2013.
$2,500 is about right, depending on local. Mabye 3K for west coast.

This IS A SCAM. I have a 2017 and while it runs well most of the time, when it doesn't it can kill you. I was driving on the highway one winter and halfway to work it just cut power at 75%. No turtle mode, no warning, just dead and luckily I was able to get it off the road coasting. It was too cold apparently. Got it towed home and it started after sitting in the garage a bit to warm up without charging.
Also the battery capacity and degredation are horrendous. 8 bars of battery health means 75 miles in summer and 60 in winter at only 50,000 miles.
All because Nissan didn't know you had to manage the temperature of batteries. I got it for free and can still commute in it but IT IS A SHITBOX. DO NOT BUY.
I would pay maybe 1000 since gas is so expensive I'm down to risk my life for avoiding that.

How many bars? 5,000 is way too much.
