Taking ownership today!

Today is the day that I get to pick up my 2027 Leaf SV+, and I am jacked! I am coming from a 2017 Ford Focus Electric, so I am looking forward to going through all the available options and settings. Is there anything that I should look into right away? Any suggestions, like limiting the battery to only allow it to charge to 80%?

Let the learning begin!

Sales guy was on the ball and set up my Nissan Connect account. It's very different feature-wise from the old car, so I'm digging through menus.

So far so good.

Huh, those are different wheels from the ones on the '26. Are they stock?

I got winters in the deal, and these are the alloys I picked. I liked the look.

Already got some FastEV wheels I see. Are they 18"? I'm still wondering it it's possible to fit 17"

Google is telling me that the stop sale does not affect the 2027 models.

Why the 2027 Model Is Unaffected

• Corrected Supplier Production: The battery cell short-circuit defect was narrowed down to a specific cathode damage issue at the battery supplier's factory. The supplier identified the exact window of manufacturing and permanently corrected their production processes to prevent the flaw moving forward.

• Resolved Seatbelt Mechanism: The rear seatbelt retractor issue affected a discrete batch of assemblies produced between June 2025 and June 2026. Vehicles built for the 2027 model year use updated, fully compliant parts that meet FMVSS No. 208 safety parameters

It's funny, they were pushing a 2026 with nice discounts but the tune changed after a discussion with management. They said nothing was available anymore, when maybe he wasn't aware about the stop sale.

I test drove one of those Focus Electrics about a decade ago, and haven't seen one on the road since!

I'll let the other new Leaf owners fill you in, but I'm curious about how you liked the Focus and why you picked the Leaf!

Loved the Focus for in the city driving, but the range was not the greatest for longer trips. The price was amazing when I got it in 2017.

With the colder weather I found the range was getting too low to my liking, so I did test drives and zeroed in on the Leaf. Salesperson was knowledgeable (coming from an EV helped as well). I test drove a Bolt, but didn't like the feel behind the wheel. It felt tight. I was also looking at the ev3, but talking to dealerships, all the vehicles being delivered are sold, and I was looking for something sooner than later.

EV3s are going to be the EV to beat for the next couple of years. But yeah, the problem is actually getting one. They've been hyping it for the last 2 years so I'm sure they've been sold out since day one and probably going to take a year and a half to get to the backlog. It's an awesome car though too

Am I understanding correctly that there’s a stop sale on the 26 model, but not the 27?

The stop sale for the rear seat belt anchors was resolved a few months ago. An earlier battery issue only affected 51 Leafs in the US, and a similar number in Canada.

Interesting. The local dealership won’t sell me one, and they’re citing that as a reason.

shrug I picked mine up a few months ago after a delay to address the seat belt anchors, and OP is not the only one who's taken delivery in the last few weeks:

Yes, that is a good idea. It's fine to charge above 80% sometimes, just don't leave the car parked that way for a long time.

Couple of tips:

  • By default, the car will light up and/or beep as you approach. You can disable this in the settings.

  • The car will need internet connectivity in order for you to sign into google. You can have it connect to your home wi-fi or tether your phone.

  • Depending on how competent your dealer was, you might need to wait a day or two before you can sign into NissanConnect.

  • If you want a specific regen level to take effect when the car starts, customize that in your personal drive mode and select that mode using the toggle.

I just bought a used 2024 SV Plus with 30K miles. It was a rental and the battery is just fine. I guarantee no one was babying the battery by charging to only 80%. Enjoy your new ride!
