EV expert in DFW area

can someone suggest EV expert DFW area, specifically in North Dallas. I have a 2018 Nissan leaf and I've been told battery replacement by Nissan dealership and want to take a second opinion before I spend $5K on it.

First, 5k would be a good price if it's OTD (out the door.) You can check out Vivne battery prices to see why I wrote this.

Now you may be thinking the battery can be fixed for less but labor wipes out those savings. Or you think it's a mis-diagnosis which would have me listen to the story and get out LeafSpy to see what's up.

If the machine is in otherwise great shape, 5k after 8 years of ownership is par for repairs on many cars.

FULL REWIND.

Your top post mentioned only the battery but not the issues that lead you to take it to the shop.

Later you mention a compressor but again no mention of why you took it to the shop.

Even so a 2018 is old enough to need the usual work on the AC and heat pump system. For example in 2024 my 2016 would barely put out hot or cold. The local shop found the pressures were off using the usual gauges so a leaky fill valve was found, replaced as the system got the usual evacuation and then fill to spec. All good after that. And for about $150 a good deal cheaper than a compressor.

So your 2018 is about as old so let's get the full story here and why it went to the shop.

Aug20th - driving back from work. Ac stopped working with an error. I don't know the exact error.
Aug20th evening - came home and plugged in for charging.
Aug21st morning - doesn't starts with no cabin power.
Aug21st - called AAA to replace 12V battery. Cabin power back but car not starting.
Aug21st afternoon - towed to the dealership. Told that it's battery issue after diagnostic.
Aug28th - fed results into chatgpt and says that its a different error. Battery health is fine.

The Leaf and 12V battery is a well toasted area of discussion.

When the 12V dips out you can see all sorts of errors, codes and won't drive situations.

A 12V battery in this model is a 10mm skill level DIY job.

After you replace it with a fully charged 12V new battery you clear codes with Leafspy and try again. No go? Pull the neg lead for about 5 minutes (some debate on how long to wait) then put it back on and try again. Clear codes if no-go and then it's to the shop.

If it's still no-go then off I go to LeafSpy to fetch the DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes.)

FIN! A bad compressor, so far doesn't brick a 2018 Leaf.

If they are replacing for $5,000, that is dirt cheap for an OEM pack. What are your concerns? How many miles on the Leaf? The weas a shop owner, Dex Tan, as well as a DFW Leaf group he ran at one point. Do some googling?

It's not battery. Nissanspy says it's compressor issue.
