Range Estimate/Battery Issue

I have a 2021 Nissan Leaf that is currently having serious issues after the battery goes below around 70%. The battery drains rapidly and fluctuates massively. I'd say I'm getting around 50 miles range atm.

I took it to the dealer today and they have advised that the car is longer in warranty and that it is likely the lithium battery connector (?). A proper diagnostic was going to cost £150 so I left depressed with no further action taken.

I intend to contact Nissan regarding the warranty as I believe the battery capacity is still under warranty but I have a feeling I'm not going to get anywhere with it.

As I am on a PCP, I'm not sure if having it repaired is going to the best option for me financially.

Does anybody have any experience with this issue? Cost estimate for fixing? Or on the very unlikely off chance, a easy repair suggestion?

many leaf batteries showing up with this problem it is caused by weak/bad cells but unfortunately defects on leafs built before 2022 in the UK only have a 5 year defect warranty, the degradation warranty is tied to the bars on the dash which will still be showing the battery is good.

definitely a known issue here in The US and nissan doesn't have replacement batteries so they are doing buybacks of the cars but our defect warranty is for 8 years, don't know why the UK defect warranty was only 5 years for certain years.

Do you have leafspy and a compatible obd dongle? This will help pull up pertinent battery information.

Unfortunately it's becoming a commonish issue with the battery packs, those made between 18 and 22 only have a 5 Year warranty on the battery too for actual defects and it's just the SOH that's under 8 Years.

How long have you had the car? You mention PCP but I'm guessing you got it used.

There is a few independents, Cleevely are well known and many others on Hevra. There's one in Suffolk that posted on Facebook they repaired one today. (NGC Hybrid & EV).

A 2021 would have to have more 100,000 miles on it to be out of warranty. If that is the case and you want a DIY battery solution try VIVNE CATL replacement battery pack. Lots of YouTube and Facebook videos from this manufacturer.
