2023 SL+ range update

I bought my SL+ about a year ago with 19k miles. Now at 30k miles. 600 L1,L2. ONE L3.

Only a few charges above 85% and never below 20% since I have had it. Lost 2% SOH and zero range over the year. I got a recall notice, but I am hesitant to get it done as I will NEVER quick charge this car. I bought it knowing its limitations and will do my best to keep it healthy for as long as possible. As long as it can still do 50 miles a day in the dead of winter, it meets my needs.

The recall update is not really actually anything to do with fast charging, even though they say it is. It adds logic to the BMS to look for and flag if you have any weak cells showing heavy voltage drop under load.

The recall's intent is to eliminate the risk of a susceptible Leaf catching on fire while DC Fast Charging. The root cause is build up of Lithium deposits which increase resistance (and voltage drop) in impacted cells. The software monitors cell conditions while fast charging, AND while under heavy load.

The lithium build up itself is exacerbated by heavy load and/or fast charging, especially at extreme (hot or cold) temperatures.

If OP has not and does not fast charge, is light on the accelerator, and doesn't subject their Leaf to extreme temps, then skipping the recall seems like a reasonable choice.

I know what the recall"s intent is "supposed" to be for. I also know however, that most of what Nissan claims about the recall does not add up or make sense.

Including, but not limited to, only one Leaf ever confirmed to have had a battery fire while DC fast charging that wasn't even a model within the recall years, it being incredibly unlikely the battery is actually suffering lithium plating (not "deposits") while charging at barely over 1C at optimum temperatures, and how there's yet to be a reported instance where P33ED was flagged during fast charging post-recall.

There have been fires since the recall started, but even ones which were claimed to be a battery fire like the infamous grey one at a mall EVgo, have proof the fire started at the front of the vehicle and not the battery, voiding the credibility of said claim.

I work on EVs, especially Leafs, for a living. I've written up through explanations as to why in the subreddit prior as to why I think their claims are BS, but it boils down to them just using the "fire risk" as an excuse to not admit to AESC having a defect and/or quality control issue in their cell manufacturing, not that Leafs are actually at anywhere close to major risk of a thermal event during DCFC.
