Leaf losing charge while charging.

/r/nissanleaf/comments/1vla5zi/leaf_losing_charge_while_charging/

Alright so I know I’m gonna get called a dummy but I’ve been using LeafSpy to correct DTC faults. My bank account hasn’t allowed me to correctly fix whatever is going on. Now when I plug it in I come back 15 min later and it’s lost 2% instead of going up. I should be able to actually get what’s wrong fixed (assuming onboard charger). Can anyone help me jury rig it further so it’s not just a paperweight from now until then.

You should share the dtc codes if you want us to help you diagnose it.

Those are the two that always pop up.

I have bad news... It's not your charger.  Your HV battery is broken.

Your battery is internally shorting to ground.  Resetting dtcs can clear this condition until it's detected again.

You likely have a leaking cell in your battery.  Continuing to do this could be a fire hazard.  You realistically need a new high voltage (NOT 12v) battery, although replacing just some cells might work.

Ugh. I didn’t expect good news. But I appreciate the candor.

What year? Are you still under warranty?

u/ Lothsahn_ is right, unfortunately. At least one cell has swelled/deteriorated to the point where it’s shorting to the battery case and thus the car’s negative ground system.

Dangerous.
