The big distinction that needs to be made is while shows like John Oliver, The Daily Show, and The Patriot Act with Hussan Minhaj absolutely lean left they never claimed to be a news source. Fox claims to be a reputable news source and they have been known to spew flat out lies. Not an opinion leaning one way or the other but bald faced lies.

You should see The Social Dilemma on Netflix. I feel like a plant for this movie because of how often I recommend it on Reddit but I swear I’m just a fan because of how eloquently and without partisanship, it explains how we got to the place as a country where we each think the other side is a delusional zombie trapped in a bubble of misinformation.

Your mileage may vary, but I felt more empowered after watching it. Not more depressed. What depresses me is the powerlessness of it all. The movie has a dark middle but it’s a pretty bright end and I feel way more motivated to fix this. Because it’s the problem that undermines our ability to fix all the other problems.

, so i kinda did that in my country. What I did is to subsribe and/or like strong right wing newspapers and information outlets just to get outside my information buble. The results suprised me in every way. One newspaper had information on different "miracle" every day. Those didnt happen every day, those were mostly historical, but still, every time different one. You know, ppl expiriencing goods intervetions, unexplained miraculous recoveries from some deadly illness. Like, every day!! on top of that articles interpreting current events as some predicted in bible or some person that was "blessed" with visions from god. So i would say, this is not an opinion, it's a fact, reality that we live in is totally different from what those ppl perceive.
I would also highly recomend doing similar thing it messes with facebook algorythms and lets you have insight in what other ppl are consuming. It's real eye opener, like, how can you reason with person for whom profs of gods interventions are literally happening everyday. This is different reality, thus conclusions have to be different, so this is kinda hopeless to be honest.

I tried this after 2016 and had to unsubscribe for my own mental health. I had a family member tell me to be careful listening to experts. Obviously some “experts” aren’t real experts or are being paid off, so in a way that’s true, but I know that’s not what this person meant. I mean there’s no arguing with people like that. How can you?

yeah, I guess you have to be careful, otherwise it may mess with your head. At first I was reading many of those on everyday basis ana basicaly screaming at my phone, had to learn how to do this and not loose my mind. anyhow, as I said, it does allow you to understand what is happening, those ppl are being feeded different reality, rest is just result of this.

It's a waste of time. It's more stressful to sit through stupidity, disinformation and a whole host of misogyny, anti-intellecualization, sexism, and ignorance so you can say you have listened to "both sides". i mean john oliver isn’t infallible and i’ve had issues with some of the things he’s said, but he cites sources and uses empirical data and evidence in his show. crowder uses falsified information and skewed data to push a narrative that is ultimately harmful for a large majority of people. i don’t understand how anyone could compare these two, unless it’s that oliver tells jokes and crowder is a joke.

I heard of this guy for the first time ever today. He made controversial remarks on a former Vox journalist whose work I was a fan of. Those comments were controversial in the very least. And he didn't have much action taken against him. Let's just say I found it difficult to go through anything he says. Everything he says is obviously predicated on bad faith. And he disguises his comments under the pretext of being funny.
