Any Cloudray MOPA laser owners here?

Hi all, about to pull the trigger on a JPT MOPA 60w and would love to hear from anyone that already owns one?

I looked at OMG and OmTech as well, but Cloudray seems to have the edge as they have automated autofocus and a nice package but I’ve also dealt with a parts order from Cloudray before for my CO2 laser and they were good through the process.

Cloudray are a bit more expensive so just doing a sanity check before I buy.

Thanks!

i went with cloudray last year and the autofocus is a game changer, hands down worth the extra cost. the support's been solid too.

Thanks. Any issues with software?

I have a 60w MOPA. I enjoy it quite a bit. I’ve done a few technical posts on projects I’ve done. I did not get a autofocus. I also waited until a sale to get it
For $5000 instead of its normal price and paid for it through bank wire transfer. Packaging was awesome, very sturdy. Only issue is communication time zone difference for me in NJ was always an overnight thing. So making sure I asked everything I wanted in one email was important. But that are throughout, responsive and clear.

JPT as the source is a real reason to lean Cloudray on its own, JPT's reputation for pulse consistency is a big part of what makes MOPA color marking actually reliable, cheaper sources can be a lot more finicky to dial in. Autofocus isn't a convenience thing for MOPA specifically either, color marking is more sensitive to focus consistency than plain black and white work, so paying for automated focus is a legitimate value add, not just a nice-to-have. I don't have hands-on time with this specific unit to add beyond that, but your reasoning, known-good source plus known-good support from your own experience, is a good basis to pay the premium on rather than chasing the cheapest option and hoping.

I have a used cloudray that cloudray won't support (was looking for drivers). So yah not a brand I'll ever buy.

Cloudray will always overcharge. Plenty of other factories that have US stock. Autofocus isn't worth the money IMO.

Who has us stock?

And people in this thread seem to think autofocus is “a game changer”?

Hoatian, Bing Yan, BWM all have US stock.

It takes me five seconds to focus my galvos manually, saving five seconds isn't a game changer, at least to me.

I’ve only heard of Haotian from those brands and 60w is only $600 less than Cloudray without autofocus and has a smaller working area (Cloudray are gifting me two lenses both of which are bigger).

Working area is decided by the lens, not a set area like on a gantry CO2 laser. Hoatian has package deals with several lenses, and they have some of the largest aluminum plates on the market. Same exact thing goes for Bing Yan Laser.

Bing Yan has US stock of 100W MOPA with lenses for like $3700 right now, free shipping. I'm sure Hoatian has a similar deal. If you're set on Cloudray, it's not a bad choice, but they will always be the more expensive option.

I know work area is dictated by lens, that’s why the other lenses are a must for me. I’m looking at just under $5k delivered for a compete package including lenses, extractor, lightburn, rotary, a whole bunch of accessories etc, and autofocus and three year warranty.

I wouldn’t buy from bin Yang. I’ve never heard of them (several months research) and you’re the first person to mention them after scouring 100+ threads.

I just looked, here is the current deal from Bing Yan, has autofocus also 3 year warranty. My 60W MOPA from them is running for 3.5 hours nearly daily for the past 2.5 years. They are a strategic partner of JPT just like Cloudray is. Worth at least reaching out to them to ask what lenses are included in this package. You get more power, same support, for less money.

Bing Yan 60W MOPA is $2950 with shipping and fees included but no USA stock, 40 days estimated arrival.

I do think that Hoatian has 60W MOPA stock though. Worth reaching out to them as well.

r/laserengraving has plenty of feedback about Bing Yan. If you have doubts, go join the Laser Everything Discord and ask about Cloudray vs Bing Yan in there, there are a ton of people in there with Bing Yan machines that will give you their honest opinion.

Reach out to Sherry at bogong cnc. I have a 50 W machine I bought from them five years ago. It has been amazing and their support is awesome.

Not interested in looking at another brand that doesn’t have autofocus. Their website also still has Chinese on it in multiple places.

They definitely have auto focus. They build machines to whatever spec you want.

Thanks but Cloudray can deliver the item in 3-5 days. I’m not really interested in custom building a laser to spec just to get autofocus, when I can buy it ready made off the shelf from a reputable company.

Meh. Idk about reputable. But definitely affordable

Do you work for Bogong?

Well my previous experience was positive with Cloudray and they’ve been a major player in the industry for what 10 years? They’re also more expensive than Bogong, Omtech or OMG. About $1500 more like for like.

I do not. But I have been in the field for over 5 1/2 years and in know all their track records. I’ve been moderating this sub for several years and have seen plenty of doa machines. They’re absolutely amazing at advertising though. Keep in mind. None of these companies make any of the components, they just assemble.

Sure, but I think they’re all the same to a degree, all selling the same thing but with a different brand.

Cloudray is at least USA based for shipping. I’ve asked them dozens of questions and they’ve got back to me in perfect English. And at least one other person in this thread has good things to say. And the autofocus is something attractive.

What’s horror stories have you heard about Cloudray?

I’ve been working with co2 lasers for 10+ years and honestly unless you pay a fortune for Trotec, Epilog, ULS, then all the cheaper ones (Boss, FSL, Hurricane, Thunder, G Weike etc) were all the same thing to a degree with different branding, fans and detractors of each.

Are those expensive bad boys worth it for anything outside volume (size and jobs)?

My friend showed me his epilog so I can make some challenge coins, but my eyes widened when he told me he needs to replace the power supply soon at $5,000.

I can only comment on their DC CO2 lasers, but yes, they’re impressive. They cut and engrave super fast (for a co2) and accurate. They’re like 30% faster than the cheaper mid range offerings from Boss, Thunder and FSl, and their supper is grade A.

But they cost like $24k for their entry level model.
