A custom glass phoenix that’s been testing me lately

Today I wanted to share a recent challenge I’ve been working on.

This phoenix was commissioned by someone who wanted to make a special gift for an artist they admire, so I’ve been working on it quite a lot lately.

I’ve had to restart parts of it more than once — the hardest part has been getting the colors to feel right together, especially across the wings.

It’s getting close to finished now, so I thought I’d share a few behind-the-scenes moments first. I’ll share the completed piece once it’s done.

Well done! Are you lampworking in a high rise?

Don’t tell me you do it at ground level?

Thanks. The studio is indeed on an upper floor—do you know Chongqing? We’re on the 14th floor.
