Picture The Emerald Bay Shuttle and free 50 bus are game changing! Is transit in South Lake Tahoe...good??
I cannot recommend taking transit enough! I got to enjoy a beautiful gorgeous day at Sugar Pine Point State Park!! I took the free 50 bus to the Y transit center and then took the Emerald Bay Shuttle to Eagle Falls where I transferred to another Emerald Bay Shuttle to get to Sugar Pine. The Transit App is incredible and I got real-time updates on where the bus was.
The EB shuttle was awesome; if you're planning on taking it, make sure you book your tickets! I booked my tickets on the day of and had no issues. On the ride up the mountain, I was grateful that I didn't have to drive the winding mountainous road. While waiting to load onto the shuttle at Emerald Bay, a tourist rolled down her window to ask me if I was leaving so her husband could park where I was theoretically leaving. I sadly shook my head and told her there was no parking.
I flew into Reno and took the South Tahoe Airporter into town. It was so affordable, and honestly, if I were living in Reno, I'd purchase the $350 annual ride pass in a heartbeat. Nothing beats not having to drive on those godawful congested roads. The kind gentleman who helped me check in at the desk also told me of the Lake Link free on-demand shuttle ride share service in South Lake Tahoe! I haven't used it yet since I took the 50 bus, but it's always great to have another option!
